It's unfortunate you're having these problems.

I have 2 A118-C cameras in my wife's car and, other than some radio interference which I believe is related to the power adapters, I've had zero problems with either one. These replaced a G1W-H that was in her car that was having recording issues when parked all day in direct sunlight on hot days.

Thanks, DT MI.

@DashCamMan, can you update https://dashcamtalk.com/b40-a118/ to mention the corrupted recordings problem I've experienced with the A118C in this thread as well as the microphone problem I described in https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/threads/a118c-static-noise-audio-recording-problem.12416/? I had relied on that page when deciding to purchase the A118C, and I think that any visitors to that page should be made aware of these kind of problems.

I don't think it's a widespread problem, there's thousands of them out there with very little mention of it

i believe you when you say you've gotten some bum cameras. my original (battery) a118 and a118c are both still fine. the only issue i have with the a118c was my own fault - i wasn't careful when taking it apart and ripped one of the leads off the speaker inside, and since it took the solder pad with it, i can't just solder it back on. the micro-fine wire leading from the solder pad to the voice coil is gone too, so i just don't have sound on the a118c anymore... which isn't such a bad thing, really.

I went ahead and applied the firmware at http://www.sendspace.com/pro/7kfrmq and will do some further testing. Some quick observations. Although the name of the downloaded zip file is S1115 A118C_FW_0320.zip (and its contents is FWB40A.bin), after I flashed the dashcam, the version on it now says A118C.20150312.001. I was expecting it to say A118C.20150320 but maybe this is just a simple labeling mistake in the firmware. Also, the startup screen no longer shows the Blueskysea logo and instead just shows the word "Welcome".

@estore009, I would still like to get the A118C.20150403 firmware and get more information on what are the changes in each of these firmware versions.

http://www.sendspace.com/pro/7nijk2 We managed to update this 20150403 firmware for you,and please have a try to update it once again, and if it can not be solved in this way,we suggest that you return it to seller for replacement!

@estore009, thank you providing the A118C.20150403 firmware. I tried it and afterwards on my first recording test, I got the same problem where the last file in the recording is corrupted (and symptom of LED lights fading away occurs). I am trying to arrange an exchange with your ebay reseller, but there is some communication problems between us where the seller is thinking the problem is with my computer playback software, memory card, etc... instead of with the dashcam itself. The time difference between China and me is also not helpful as each reply/response is taking one day while the correspondence gets dragged out.

For future reference in case I ever want to use the A118C.20150403 firmware again later, could you mention what are the changes made in this version? I feel I keep having to repeat this question, but this would be good for the community to know about as well what changes go into the various firmware versions. There doesn't seem to be good information on this searching these forums, usually companies provide change logs for different firmware versions. I did notice that when I flashed this firmware, the startup screen changed back to say Bluskysea and the version shown on the dashcam does show as A118C.20150403.

Yes,we have a talk to our local US seller, and they will arranged this replacement for you, please do not worry about it,and please feel free to contact us directly if any questions!

Dunno. I was just copying some files off my rear camera, and it looks like I have three corrupted files out of nearly two hundred on the SD card. So, if you're not copying files off regularly, you may not notice.

Good afternoon Jokiin,

I've been following this thread and I too have a similar issue with my A118C Dashcam purchased about 2 weeks ago. It worked fine for about a week and has now stopped recording. The unit powers up and hangs at the Welcome screen. I've performed some of the earlier suggestions such as Reset and reset without the memory card in the unit. The problem is the unit will not boot past the welcome screen even when the memory card is out of the unit. Is this is the same issue you are working here? any help would be appreciated!

Thank you,
Michael

if you've reset and it hangs even without a memory card in it then it's a hardware issue, talk to whoever you bought it from about getting it replaced

I will submit the request for replacement.
Thank you for the quick response!

I will submit the request for replacement.

Now that's pretty good support from someone who doesn't have anything to do with your camera or where you purchased it from.

Thumbs up for SG... ThumbsUp.jpg

Reporting same issue. Today I wanted to check recorded files and found that all last 120 from 148 files (since Jul 26, 2015 3:50PM) are corrupted and neither of them is playable. Checking file content shows that all corrupted files are filled with zeros/empty bytes.

Received my dashcam 1 week ago.

Will try to update firmware with latest one suggested above. If it doesn't help, will send back to seller.

what memory card?

It is a no-name 32GB Micro SDHC Class 10 TF Flash Memory Card from eBay. While I was researching solution for this issue I saw that you suggested in other thread to test the card. So, before responding I was waiting when test will be completed and it looks like I am a victim of the fake 32GB card. Based on the analysis dump below it is a 8GB card stretched out to 32.

P.S.:
I have another 2GB SanDisk card which I tried to use to upgrade firmware. I wasn't able to update firmware which still remains as A118C.20150108. I just copied FWB40A.bin to the freshly formatted card. But device didn't pick it up.

i've tried to use an old 2gb card to update firmware as well, but they're too slow to be recognized by the camera. needs to be class 6 or higher. my old 2gb card (crucial brand if i remember right) doesn't even list a class rating on it.

funny to think that it wasn't all that long ago that we looked at a 2gb drive the way we look at a 10 TERAbyte drive today - "oh, we'll NEVER fill that thing up!"

will we be looking at yottabyte drives that way in another 15 years?

More likely in 15 years we'll have 'infinibyte' cards that link directly to the web via satellite with unlimited cloud storage. :D
