Redtiger F77 - 2-Channel - 4K Front + 4K Rear - Testing / Review - RCG

Thanks, I checked for that update OTA through the app, but it never showed. Since it's working great I did not update through the SD card. I only use the WiFi and the app via 5G for downloading. Around 1 minute for a 5 minute (1.1 GB) file is ok for me.
You're an example of the more typical [and totally valid] use case with regards to downloading only specific video files using the Redtiger app. My use case is more atypical in that I perform a bulk copy of the video files from the video storage media to my computer or NAS drive. In the F77 case, that means removing the camera to take it into my office to copy the files. I was really hoping this 6-month long experience of trying to get the bulk file copy corruption issue was behind me was done. I hope Redtiger quickly figures out what they changed between the "test" version the public version to cause the file transfer rate reduction.

Six months, it's obvious you've done all that you can. It's time to let it go.

The first three of months were the most time consuming since I had to identify what was causing the copied video files to become corrupt [cable(s), computer(s), USB-C port types, first F77, second F77]. Once the source of the problem was identified as the F77 [both units had the problem], conveying the info to Redtiger took longer than it should have taken. Since I had the tests scripted, it didn't take much time to test firmware updates [there were a few]. Redtiger did produce a test firmware that fixed the file corruption issue and the file copy speed was no lower than before. The public version has the same version string except for the "T" at the end.

As long as Redtiger spends some diag/engineering time to resolve it, I'll spend a small amount of time to verify it.

I did warn you that they were either not going to fix it or it would end up being time consuming for you or them. Either way, the issue is still here as I correctly predicted.

Up to you what you do with your time, whether it's a small or large outlay of time, but the issue is still here. It's a personal choice whether it's a labour or love or if it's become a mental obsession.

Your prediction that Redtiger will fail to fix the file copy corruption issue was wrong. They did fix it.

There's a new issue regarding the massive slow down in file copy performance only in the new production version of the firmware. I like to see projects to their completion [good or bad]. I had to make calls on when to further pursue or terminate test plans/projects when I ran a cross platform QA team at Oracle. Why not let Redtiger see what they did to cause the new issue. If it gets fixed then everyone of their customers get a "win".

Well if you're that obsessed with their completion, then why not take up a job with Redtiger. You're not a paid employee with them, so why take upon a project to completion? No one's impressed either by you trying to name-drop your previous career employment.

You just admitted you have an obsession and compulsion with the outcome of this whole Redtiger firmware issue. It's mentally not healthy for you, whether you like to admit it or not.

Hmm...sounds like maybe RT sort of tossed their cookies when they went to compile the code. QC team could use a talking too I suppose. šŸ™‚

So far I have noticed big problem with recording 30fps... I'm not sure if it is real 30fps. It is very difficult to recognize reg plate numbers when you are driving . I hope they will do something to fix it

Mines 30 fps, that's easy to verify by going frame by frame in your video player. I have no problem reading plates either compared with my A229. The Redtiger outperforms it, as it should with 4k vs 2k. Night time is the biggest improvement with the Starvis 2. At the price I paid on Amazon with a Youtube reviewer discount ($200 us), I made the right choice. The A329 is no longer on my wish list at twice the price. And I am used to the 4 inch screen as I like to verify settings and operation each time I start up. No more squinting.

Redtiger has released firmware updates for the F77 V1 [128 GB eMMC] and the F77 V2 [256 GB eMMC]. These firmware updates are follow-up patches to the firmware versions released in early June 2025. These firmware updates should restore the file copy speed from 6 MB/sec to 18 MB/sec [still very slow, but back where it was with the original firmware] when copying files from the internal eMMC drive, through the F77's USB-C port to your computer.

The main reason for the early June 2025 firmware update was to resolve a file corruption issue that would randomly occur when copying files from the F77's eMMC drive over the USB-C connection to a Windows computer. I never experienced this problem with my Mac Mini M2.

I have not had a chance to test the 20-June-2025 firmware version for the F77 V1 yet. I'll run my test suite over the weekend to see if it continues to fix the file copy problem and it restores the copy speed to 18 MB/second.

Part of the "fix" for the file corruption issue while copying over the USB-C connection was to format the eMMC drive after the updated firmware is installed. That is not mentioned on Redtiger's website, but I would recommend you format the eMMC after upgrading the firmware.

The 20250620 firmware update for the F77 V1 [128GB version] dash camera fixes the random file corruption issue while copying videos over the USB-C connection to a computer. An earlier June 2025 firmware release that fixed the file corruption issue was made publicly available, but it had a new bug which reduced the file copy speed over the USB-C data connection from 18 MB/sec [which is already very slow] to a horribly slow 6 MB/sec. The 20250620 F77 firmware update fixes both the file corruption issue and the even slower file transfer speed problem. There is a firmware update for the F77 V2 [256GB eMMC drive version]. I do not have a F77 V2, so I cannot test the updated firmware for the F77 V2.

Redtiger Dash Camera Firmware Download Page

The F77 user manual states that F77 firmware updates can be performed over-the-air. That is not true [confirmed with Redtiger]. I did not find a Redtiger video showing the microSD card method of updating the firmware for the F77, so I created one.

While it's good news that there is finally a true, dual-channel 4k dashcam on the market, I am disappointed in Redtiger's decision to record to built-in storage, and only to built-in storage.

This setup introduces problems not encountered with a removable SD card (like all my previous dashcams have had).

None of the methods provided to get video off the system would be practical for me.

Poor design choice. I wonder what was behind it? If this was stated somewhere in the last 4 pages, I missed it.

Thanks to @rcg530 for all the work reviewing this Redtiger F77.

Since a true, dual-4k dashcam is apparently now achievable at a not-totally-ridiculous price point, I will wait for Viofo, Thinkware, et al to introduce theirs.

My camera did come with an older firmware. WIll get that upgrade installed šŸ™‚

So yesterday Redtiger told me that the F77 now has the ability to save video footage to your MicroSD card while driving, but I'm not totally sure if that's correct or perhaps there was a miscommunication due to language barriers. With the latest updates, do we now have the ability to have the dashcam save videos to the MicroSD instead of the eMMC while driving and parking?

I just checked the RedTiger website and the firmware available for the F77 is still the June 2025 version. That version fixed the random file corruption issue when copying files from the eMMC drive to a computer over a USB connection.

I’m not aware of that firmware version having the option of recording video directly to the microSD card. The microSD card can only be used to install firmware and backup video files from the eMMC drive.
