Hey everyone,

Just installed my dash cam last night. I was planning on removing this from the mount and carrying it in my briefcase with me at work. Is there any concerns about damaging the GPS mount or the dash cam if i'm removing it once or twice a day and carrying it in my briefcase?

I'm just reluctant to leave it in my car as we've had a lot of cars broken into at both where I park for work and at home

I have removed and replaced the dash cam more times than I can remember. I have tested many mod firmware on the A119 v2 and carried around the dashcam in my pocket at times. I have had no problem with doing this but obliviously you need to careful and not rough and ready.

I can not see any problems with placing a A119 V3 safely in a briefcase.

It may require the occasional replacement of the EVO sticky pad to the back of cam to ensure you do not experience any rattles.

I think I'd have a small plastic box with some foam in it. Mainly to stop the lens 'clicking' to another angle accidentally.

Obviously not this size but you can get these right down to almost matchbox size:

A tip that might be useful. Use a Sharpie to mark the lens vertical position on swivel and cam's case to aid you if the lens does move. The horizontal position is less of a problem because of the shroud around the lens.

That's what I've done on my drivers seat base so when they move/slide it at service I can get it back to where I like it

That's an excellent suggestion. I've been using inexpensive padded hard shell cases for years just for this purpose as well as to store and transport power banks. Even if you should have to move the lens module position it is extremely easy to put it back where it belongs after storage.

You can find padded, hard-shell cases (often waterproof or resistant) at very modest prices on AliExpress, Bangood and elsewhere. There are also many other designs, often specifically intended for GoPro style action cameras but that would work fine for a dash cam.

I keep my Gitup G3 action cams in medium size case similar to above. It is supplied with a foam cut out suitable for a dashcam and sd-cards and a few other items. It's available from Viofo without the SJcam logo.

Just to play Devil's advocate.
Something I have noticed with the small USB ports on my phone, after a while, the plug/socket wears with the constant plugging/unplugging. I resorted to buying a magnetic connector with my older phone. My new phone will take a charge simply by laying it on the charging pad.
It's not happened with my dashcam - then again, I rarely unplug it.

Like I said earlier you have to take care. If you use a GPS there is no need to keep unpluging the USB lead.

I'd be looking for a case where you can leave the lens angle unaltered as I think that ratchet may wear in time.

As @Tractor said, leave the USB plugged into the GPS base and no wear will occur. Having said that though, my previous Garmin was in and out daily without issue.

I've got one of those boxes handy and they fit the Viofo perfectly, see the image, without moving the lens, this is what you need, and apply some padding.
It may even lie flat, not tried that, if it does then the foam from the Viofo box could be trimmed:

Thanks everyone. I'll look into getting a case! And yes I have it plugged intoy gps base so that's not a problem.

The only thing I've found is that it's very easy to accidentally alter the angle. When I need to remove it I have a padded plastic box, just big enough, to try and prevent it.
