Another "Russian turn" :( You should never go where you can't see that it is safe or not.

I noticed in the article that some folks nearby sheltered in a basement in case of an explosion. Never do that as gas is heavier than air and can collect there asphyxiating you or exploding. With any gas leak, quickly evacuate upwind on foot trying to keep buildings between you and the leak. If you try to start a car, a spark from the starter might set off a fire or explosion.
