SEMA 2024

On another note, I just tested positive for Covid so I'm not sure I'm gonna be able to go. :\ We'll have to see how I'm feeling over the next couple days. Just started getting symptoms last night. Obviously things are different today than they were during the pandemic and I'm curious how things would go with masking and distancing in general, if it'd be okay to safely unmask for videos, etc. without getting other people sick too. Lousy timing, heh.

If you have symptoms now, you won't be infectious be the time you get there, except possibly the first day of the show, so it just depends on how you feel. It was yesterday, maybe the previous evening, today and maybe tomorrow that you will be infectious.

Everybody now has natural immunity to covid, new variants sometimes cause cold symptoms, but most people won't notice them, just treat it as any other cold, because that is what it is. Colds can be dangerous to some people, but you won't meet those people at a show.

I'm curious how things would go with masking and distancing in general, if it'd be okay to safely unmask for videos, etc.
Covid became so infectious that it doesn't make any difference, you just need to be in the same room to spread it, mask or no mask!
But you don't stay infectious for long after symptoms appear, and there will be plenty of other people there that are spreading it!

How Long Are You Contagious With COVID-19?

According to the CDC, if you have mild to moderate COVID-19, you may be contagious for 10 days from the first day you notice symptoms.

If you were severely affected or critically ill from COVID-19, you may stay infectious for up to 20 days from the start of your symptoms.

Your infectiousness is highest 1 day before the start of your symptoms and begins to wane about a week later for most people.

The Omicron variant has a shorter COVID-19 incubation period compared with other variants. For the Omicron variant, the incubation period is 1-4 days.

Just take some Vitamin C, and you’ll be fine.
Bat Flu only affects obese, and the elderly, you’re healthy as an ox. lol
If you get tired at the show, you can use my rascal.

I would just go. When I started travelling again internationally when they were lifting most of the border restrictions in late 2022 (Fiji first off the ranks for me), some people were still wearing masks etc etc.

Since then have gone to plenty of other countries (Africa, Middle East, Asia and Pacific) and domestically within Australia without issue - I've been sick a few times over the years and probably picked up COVID but no one cares and the severity of it has dropped. Borders on paranoia at this point.

If you haven't travelled since the pandemic, I can understand the hesitancy but honestly it's for nothing at this stage.

Sorry about the bad timing. I hope you feel better soon. I was looking forward to meeting you in person at the show.

It is still quite common, so unavoidable at a show.

The UK health service advice says that you can go back to normal activities even if you still feel ill, as long as you do not have a high temperature, which I assume is for your own benefit!

What to do if you have symptoms of COVID-19
Try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people if you or your child have symptoms and either:
  • have a high temperature
  • do not feel well enough to go to work, school, childcare, or do your normal activities
You can go back to your normal activities when you feel better or do not have a high temperature.

If your child has mild symptoms such as a runny nose, sore throat or mild cough, and they feel well enough, they can go to school or childcare.

Yeah and have you travelled overseas since restrictions were lifted?

I travelled over the sea two weeks ago, out of the country, but not out of the UK. While there I met some people from Canada. My nephew caught a cold, then gave it to me, so it’s quite possible that I’ve just had Vortex’s Covid, don’t know since we don’t test here. My nephew ran a half marathon while he had it, didn’t affect him much, I’ve just had a sore throat.

It’s good to keep your immunity up-to-date, prevents more serious illness.

Yeah, so much less experience than me then. Thanks for your input.

Thanks guys. I'm feeling surprisingly good. Maybe a little runny nose here and there, but that's about it so far, so I'm still a go for SEMA. :)
