That's one reason I tell people to go find an empty area and practice car control in the snow so when things like this happen you are ready for them.

While i am sure it is a little bit of luck as well practicing and getting a feel for how your car acts helps to keep from panicking and handling things as calmly as possible. Great post.

Yeah being prepared is good, too bad all the good spots i use to go have been filled with houses, or fenced off as a part of the Danish terror protection plan. ( u know i 12" high fence with nothing on top will keep the terrorists out of a gravel pit or harbour area )

Guess you have seen this oldie.

I've done that exact thing. Scared me to death! Was doing 105 kmh on two lane divided highway, bare pavement but well below freezing, pulled out to pass large truck, hit a patch of black ice, car did a complete 360 spin and I was going the same direction I started! Instinctive reactions kicked in, but we get lots of practice driving on ice/snow, so car control is learned pretty early here. It's easy to go to a deserted snow covered parking lot and practice power sliding, counter steering, skid correction, etc.

I have been wondering why we dont see more Canadians in international rally, you Guys should have good room to practise like the ppl in Finland have.

I am still wondering when you Canadians and Americans are going to let our snow and ice come home...

Thats pretty cool. Once when I was a teenager, I missed a turn to enter a shopping area and tried to turn into it a little too fast. My passenger told me to turn into the center a little too late. The car didn't turn its wheel right away and I jumped the curb and was now driving parallel to the road on the sidewalk. After a short distance, I went back down to the road and got the heck out of there.

The car was a really dodgy Toyota Cressida and we had a good laugh about it. I will remember that for the rest of my life.

LOL I remember going to turn off for the shops and just going straight past brake NO steering NO.
Long Audi 100 Avante car thank you for staying straight and true. turned around and went back to see a ice rink at the turn, mind that was years ago... like 2000 ish

Hot damm 😡 that was a prime example of complete incompetent driving.

And a nice save on the part of the cameracar. ( still need that thumbs up smily )
