We are not pitchy. Just focusing on education.

Saying we recommend certain products becomes outdated quite quickly.

This is how you end up having the Viofo A119 V3 selling way past its prime.

Nothing wrong with your approach, but say someone comes in with 199 CAD (Botslab price), to inquire about a solid dashcam in this price range. As dashcam retailer and installer, you offer options based upon your expertise.

I would personally tell someone you're better off with an older generation Viofo, Vantrue, etc than a Botslab. I bet the Viofo A119 V3 still outperforms that camera!

1.) There's no such thing as useless dash cam, it can always be used as a bad example.
2.) You gotta kiss a lot of frogs before you find a prince.

How do we tell uneducated first time buyers what a "good" dash cam is without showing them what pieces of junk the "bad" ones are?

The I thought my "cheap piece of crap" dash cam was recording and it didn't capture the accident threads over the years LOL!

Plenty of youtube videos of these crap brands exist. I realize @SafeDriveSolutions can't use other people's videos for marketing, but showing customers is permissible.

Why invest in cameras you know won't cut muster? Seems a waste of money to review products that are low end systems destined to fail.

Out of curiosity I went to Amazon and searched for "4K Dashcam", as I suspect many inexperienced buyers will look here for their first dashcam.

First place on the "4 stars and above" list is the Botslab G980H kit that @SafeDriveSolutions reviewed.

If any potential buyers bother to search for a review beyond looking at those on Amazon, hopefully they will find SDS's video and perhaps make an informed choice.

Hopefully people also steer clear of 'Amazon's Choice' no-name 4K+1080P dashcam for £36!

Says it all... Don't trust Amazon reviews EVER. At this point, everyone knows they are often bought and paid for! Companies "refund money" to customers or offer incentives for 5 stars.

Quick google to look up products is always recommended. I also ALWAYS READ negative reviews first. Clearly, 5 minutes of research will show the camera is junk. Caveat Emptor. You can't protect people from themselves if they don't take the time to do their homework.

No one would find @SafeDriveSolutions video if they simply are reading the Amazon Reviews alone.

You are doing very useful and important work.

1. Vantrue nor Viofo make hardwire kits suitable for EV vehicles. I'm not sure about other brands. Thus, dinging RedTiger seems unfair. All modern hardwire kits cut off at 12.6V.

2. For the sake of testing, I would attempt a "Temporary Fix" that forces the F7N mount to remain stable whilst driving to eliminate vibrations. If confirmed that vibrations are the culprit for poor readability, I would then contact be RedTiger to correct their mount design.

The timer is another fail safe. I told Red Tiger this 3 years ago. They dont care to change anything.

The mount is crap. We installed at least 100 of these units in past year. Its not my job to fix their mount. I am not an engineer or being paid to fix it. I am not going to glue it or anything like that. This is how they delivered it. If they want to pay me for consulting I would be happy to show them how I recommend fixing it. Until then…

Also Vantrue has new firmwares and etc coming soon. Stuff we met with them about fixing back in January. When they fix it we will talk about them more.

I'm talking voltage cutoff per your video. No manufacturer has a higher voltage cutoff than 12.6, which isn't EV friendly. So to hit RedTiger on that issue seems a bit unfair. Timer length is a gripe (12 hours or higher), but still doesn't resolve the overall lack of EV support by manufacturers.

Vantrue is very receptive to feedback. I am fond of the brand quite a bit. Any time I give a suggestion, they take it seriously. I am glad you and Vantrue patched up differences.

Engineering wise, I tend to test something even if it varies beyond the scope of delivery, but there's o obligation. Testing without vibration simply shows whether or not the IMX 675 can capture plates or the camera itself is junk.
