This is the district's forecast (it's where the regional weather station is):

And this is the local forecast. The UV index must be the same, since the temperatures are higher.

I gotta say, I've been following the weather forecast since the portuguese meteo institute started its web page, around 15 years ago, and I've never seen this extreme UV index being recorded ever! 😱😱
And it's not only here, it's on 15 of the 27 Portugal's districts!
Notice that between 1971 and 2000 the average Summer temperatures didn't even reach 30ºC. Next time they do that chart they'll have to add 40ºC and 45ºC to the scale and dump the 0ºC and the 5ºC!

Jeez, someday soon the dashcam's casings will have to be made of UV resistant material and probably they'll come equipped with fans!

Yeah, and it looks like the temperatures next week are going to be a bit on the warm side. 😀

If you had an outdoor job like mine you wouldn't be laughing. 🙁
I remember when it was almost unbearable to be outside with "only" 30ºC and now I go through weeks on end with temperatures between 30º and 35ºC and it doesn't seem to affect me that much. I think this "adaptation" is worrying.

It's called survival.
I guess so. We might have adjusted our bodies to withstand the heat better, but at the same time did we build additional protection to withstand the rest of the sun's harmful effects?

You are most welcome to export some of that heat up here, "summer" so far have been pretty tame up here.

ATM the water is 17 degrees and the air is less than that some days, just over 20 degrees if we have a "good" day.

I used to be an auto mechanic here in Houston. the first 100f (38c) day usually came in late may or early june, and the last one was in september.

i'm glad i'm not a mechanic anymore.

here's the current forecast for northwest houston (note the HUGE amounts of rain in the forecast!)
hot.webp

I was in Laredo last week, and it was a little warm 🙁

If i could i would, but i am affraid the weather import tax would kill me, and anyway i would hate to share the good weather with all the other Danes 😀

You can take it all and for free, for all I care! 😀

I never liked the heat but these last twelve years it's been too much, here in my area.
But it's not this way all over the country: in Leiria's area, just 50 km northwest of here, during these last two hot months the highest temperatures they had were below 25ºC! The only day it went over those figures was the day when we had 42ºC here, and they had 30ºC!

This summer has been one of the hottest overall here so far in SC USA with higher than usual temps setting in early. No records broke yet though. Summers here are always hot but most days are usually tolerable for those of us who live with the weather. I spent many years working outdoors here, my age makes that harder to do now; I'm not sure the UV factor has anything to do with that. What I have noticed is that those who work outside more-or-less constantly generally don't have major skin or heat-related health problems, the body seems to learn to adapt to conditions very well. Those who hide from the sun (and the heat too) fall out quickly when suddenly exposed to more than they are used to. Those who use sunblocker are also more susceptible it seems. Just my observations, you may have other thoughts 😉

Humans have lived for eons in every environment on Earth. It hasn't killed us off in droves anywhere. That evidence seems stronger to me than what we hear now about it being so dangerous to be outside. I think the difference is that when you've learned to live with your environment, you are less affected by it than when you try to avoid it. Air Conditioning is a relatively new phenomenon and it's growing spread in use has coincided with the reported skin/health issues, but none of the research seems to notice that. Maybe that is because they are doing their research work in air-conditioned rooms themselves?

It's summer, it's hot, it's sunny, and that is how it is supposed to be 😎 Now get over it or move to a cooler climate and don't complain about the winters after that 😛

I started doing what I do now 30 years ago, so my body is well adapted to all kinds of weather conditions, but I remember clearly that the summers were not this hot. Like I said before, these crazy temperatures only started to be more frequent from 2003 onwards, so summers are not "normal" anymore.
The thing with UV levels is that you can feel the sun burning your skin more than before, even if the air temperature is not very high. On some days like today, for instance, it was very windy and not that hot but it was almost impossible to be out in the sun for long periods of time.

If I want to move to a cooler climate I'll just move to Leiria. 😛😀
Oh, and I never complain about the winter. I love the winter!

hehe funny, the movie "the core" just started on my TV, in there we are heading for a little more than hotter than usioal temperatures.

I love heat, maybe due to where i have lived most of my life. Offcourse if i have to work a really hot place i will need a siesta or at least not work every minute of every hour.
A ship engine room is plenty hot, and so is standing guard the the fule nozzle bunkering at the mouth of the gulf. ( Oman )
For that you need to be in shade and have plenty of water and ice at hand.
Which they dident have on the ship supplying us with fule, so they was dropping like flies over there and beggin us for spare parts and our engineers to fix ther aircon.

Allso love the snow, but we usioally dont get that here in any ammounts that make it interesting, this winter in total we got 3-4 inches in total in my area.
And i dont have a wife that can shovel the driveway 😀
I would love to break my personal towed sled record, but for that i need snow and some one who dare drive fast ( + 100 km/h ) on snow.

...
And i dont have a wife that can shovel the driveway 😀...
Yeah, it looks like I had the better part of that - camera versus shovel. Truth is I had done most of it and she came out to help at the very end, mostly because she was in the house doing other stuff, like fixing dinner which is at least as important as shoveling snow. 🙂
