Vantrue E1 Pro Starvis 2 IMX678 PlatePix & HDR / The best 4k single channel camera in 2025?

The Vantrue app got another update.
The activation is apparently improved, and new functions were added. Don't know what kind of functions these are.

Within the Vantrue app, there is now a post in the community section.
At the bottom is the + to add a post. It allows users to share downloaded pictures or videos recorded by Vantrue dashcams.

I've now taken the E1 Pro out of my car to make space for other units.

I've not had any unexpected behavior, it was always recording as it should.

The E1 Pro to this date, is still my recommendation when its comes to a 1 channel 4K unit!

Looking forward to the next few release that Vantrue has @Jeff_Vantrue !

5. Fixed mosaic or screen distortion issues during playback of some 1920×1080 videos.

Looking for a 1 or 2 channel for a pick up truck. Leaning toward a compact 1 channel.

The Viofo VS1 and the Vantrue E1 Pro are both top choices for me and I'm trying to decided between the two of them.

Any advice on one versus the other in actual use?

The Viofo VS1 and the Vantrue E1 Pro are models in different categories.
The Viofo VS1 = 2K. It's been working on my car's rear window for over a year and a half. No issues have been encountered during this time.
The Vantrue E1 Pro = 4K. It was tested for about six months. No issues were encountered.

Why aren't you considering the Viofo Mini 2 and A119M Pro?

I wear glasses with trifocal lenses. It is nearly impossible for me to read things that are tiny and above my eyeline, so a small screen mounted high, on and angle, would require me to do all sorts of contortions to see the screen.

I do realize that the VS1 has lower resolution but both units seem to have qualify video for the purpose of capturing a crash or parking lot bump. Seems like the E1 Pro has better night video based on a bunch of video comparisons.

You don't need to look at the screen, especially since the VS1 doesn't have one.
These models have Wi-Fi, and all settings can be made on your smartphone.

Video shot in 4K should by definition be better than 2K.

One of the things I like about the VS1 is the lack of screen! Lets the unit be smaller and more discreet, the Mini 2 and A119 are just larger. Smaller, in my priorities is better.

You were looking at the Vantrue E1 Pro, and it's no smaller than the Viofo Mini 2 and A119M Pro.
That's why I asked about those models...

Since you can't see anything anyway, the screen or not shouldn't matter to you. 😉

The VS1 wins for size, for sure. Angle the mount on both the VS1 and the E1 Pro and that will slightly alter the measurements. Neither are as wide as the Mini 2. The Mini 2 is also "thick" and that might make a behind the mirror mount location hard. I've already got a Valentine 1 V2 radar detector tucked up over the rearview mirror in the new truck with a remote display screen, I have to see which unit will fit more discreetly given the mirror shape and radar detector location.

So went out to the garage, the logical mounting point, given the configuration of the mirror and the electronics box mounted to the glass behind the mirror to hold the optical sensors for the lane keeping system, The mounting spot will be to the RIGHT/passenger side of the mirror. Not sure if the sun visor would knock into the camera in that location. The VS1 would likely 'fit' as would the E1 Pro.. A Mini 2 would also likely fit better despite being a little wider because of the mounting angle. The likely location would be between the shade 'dots' and the industrial velcro that is stuck on the windshield. That velcro is being removed, it held an older style toll road transponder but a new transponder just replaced that unit and the velcro is coming off the windshield.

You have enough space there to install any of the models you choose.

Can't the dash cam be mounted on the glass directly behind the mirror?
So it's positioned between the mirror and the glass...

Not really. The truck has a lot of electronics and area behind the mirror is pretty much occupied by the sensors for the automatic lane keeping system, the automatic headlight system, etc etc etc

The mount for the Valentine 1 radar detector complicates matters. Ideally the camera could be mounted behind the left 1/3 of the rearview mirror. The trucks sensor enclosure occupies the remaining 2/3rds of the space. But the radar is mounted in pretty much the perfect place and do to the trucks sensor enclosure can't be mounted to the right side of the mirror. The sensor enclosure also extends forward.

Made my choice, ordered the E1 Pro today in a bundle with a 256gb data card and the hardwire kit.

US$159.97 shipped to my door.

The size of the E1 Pro was attractive to me, but looking at reviews and specs it clearly is a top tier single channel.

Looking at comparisons with the Viofo and their prices, it just didn't make any sense to order a Viofo with similar specs.

Their new A119M Pro pretty much specs out as the closest equivalent to the E1 Pro, but adding in the hardwire, equivalent data card and the Viofo is simply not competitively priced to the E1 Pro when the A119M Pro prices out at $225.97.

The Viofo VS1 Mini, which has the smaller form factor I like, priced out at US$209.96.

All prices are directly off the manufacturer websites today, with shipping.

I just don't see how the newest Viofo A119M Pro is worth US$66.00 more than the Vantrue E1 Pro. And the lower spec'd VS1 Mini seems absurdly priced in comparison.

That’s a helluva good deal!

I absolutely love the small E1 Pro size and price.
A119M has Wifi 6.

I don't tend to use Wifi for downloading video but I have to admit partially because even 5G can be kind of slow. 6G is suppose to be 3X faster.
I really do like the small form factor of the E1 Pro so If I were choosing, that would be a more favorable deciding factor over 6G assuming other specs were similar (which I think they are).
The $66 price difference would not bother me if I really wanted the 6G but I'm planning to purchase a Viofo BP100 battery ($269) which has Bluetooth rather than the 70mai battery ($200) which does not.
