Vantrue JS3 Jump Starter & Air Compressor - Unboxing and First Impressions

My experience with the Vantrue JS1 over the last several months was very positive, so I was curious to see how their newer JS3 model stacks up as Vantrue offered me to check it out.
This new version is a 3-in-1 device combining a jump starter, an air compressor, and a power bank.
With a massive 3250A peak current, the JS3 is rated for up to 3.8L diesel engines and 8.0L gas engines. This means the widely used 3.0L diesels here in Europe will be absolutely no problem for this unit to handle.

Packaging and Carrying Case
The packaging is standard Vantrue. It is clean and informative.

The back provides all the technical specifications.

Opening the cardboard box reveals a very nice semi-hard carrying case. It has a small loop which can be used to carry it.
The case feels durable and is branded with the Vantrue Power logo.

Inside, everything is neatly organized. The top half holds the accessories in a mesh pocket, while the bottom half cradles the JS3 unit.

A closer look at the top compartment shows the jumper cables securely stored.

The JS3 fits snugly in its designated spot.

Build Quality and Features

Taking the JS3 out, the build quality feels solid.

The back of the unit lists the regulatory labels and the technical specs.

One of my favorite design choices is the cleverly hidden storage compartment right on the device for the air compressor nozzles.
It is a really clever solution so you do not lose those tiny valve adapters.

One side has both USB ports, the compressor outlet and the connector for the jump starter.
The less often used ports for the compressor and the jump starter are hidden with a flap.

Opening the rubber flap reveals the ports. These hidden flaps are awesome for protecting the ports from dirt and dust.

The base of the unit has the threaded port to connect the air hose.

The JS3 has a 65W USB-C input and output, and a standard USB-A with Quick Charge 3.0 The 65W PD is ideal for fast charging mobile devices or the JS3 itself.

Powering it on reveals a crisp and bright color LCD screen. It shows the battery capacity in real time.
A unique and very useful feature is that it also displays the actual vehicle voltage when the jump starter clamps are connected.
In the picture the air pressure target can be seen. On the left of it is the current pressure.

Air Compressor and Performance Comparison
The integrated air compressor is well thought out. It features 6 preset modes like Car, SUV, Bike, and Ball, and it stops automatically when the target pressure is reached.

I just put the JS3 head-to-head in a tire inflation test against another popular combo unit that I also made a post about here on the forum.
While both devices inflated the tire at the same speed, the Vantrue was significantly quieter and much more pleasant to listen to.
Moreover, the Vantrue can display the pressure in 0.01 Bar increments, whereas the competitor only shows 0.1 Bar steps. That is a big difference in precision.

Like most jump starters, it includes a built-in flashlight. The light is bright enough for the night and provides nice indirect lighting for roadside repairs.

It also features multiple warning modes, including a red flashing light, a white blink mode, and SOS signals.

Accessories and Minor Criticism
The kit includes a braided air hose. However, I do have some criticism here.
The valve connector at the front of the hose cannot be rotated independently. This means there is a risk of twisting the entire hose awkwardly when attaching it to the tire.

The jumper cables themselves seem robust.

Looking closely at the clamps, they make a very good and firm impression. The copper teeth are sharp and should easily bite onto the battery terminals for a solid connection.

The controller for the clamps has clear indicator lights to guide the user.
The boost button can be used to revive completely flat batteries. Otherwise the boost button isn't needed.

The back of the controller includes printed safety warnings and a quick connection guide.

Initial Verdict

I have not had to test the actual jump starter functionality on a dead battery yet. (luckily) However, charging my phone, using the air compressor, and testing the lamp all work flawlessly.
Overall, the JS3 seems like a well thought out product. Vantrue clearly listened to user feedback. The combination of a powerful jump starter, an intelligent and precise air compressor with auto-stop, and high-speed 65W charging makes this a great all-in-one tool for emergencies or camping trips. Put it in the car and use it when required.
