Vantrue S1 Pro Max - Dual STARVIS 2 IMX678 with Waterproof 4K Rear camera - Unboxing & First Impressions Europe

I don't have a phone, so I end up downloading the firmware to my computer and installing with the SD card. Though, I suspect I'm part of a very small minority 😉.
yes maybe just u

Yeah, I teach courses about privacy and technology, so no smart phone for me 🤣

i wish vantrue update the rear camera

I don't have a phone
I have a phone out of necessity, there is a very real chance that once my old mother leave this place, my phone will leave me.
I was without a phone in the pocket from around 1999 to 2009, and during that time i can not say i missed it, but of course this was regular phone not the smart stuff.

@Jeff_Vantrue would it be possible to properly name the firmware for the rear camera on this page: https://www.vantrue.com/pages/s1promax-manual-firmware
It currently only says "Firmware (Rear Camera)" and can be confusing.
A small information like 4k or 2.5k would make it much easier.
There is also a new camera listed, the RC18. Which one is this?
Thank you very much for your suggestion. Our website team will update and improve the information on that page within this week.

Regarding the RC18: it is our newly redesigned 2K cylindrical rear camera. This model is not waterproof and is intended for interior installation only. Since some users experienced shaking with the previous waterproof rear camera when it wasn’t mounted perfectly, our design team created this new model based on customer feedback.

Thanks for taking care of this!

Will just the design be different?
Same lens, FOV, etc?

Sorry, I mixed up the model numbers of the rear cameras earlier. In fact, the RC17 is the new 4K cylindrical rear camera. Compared with the previous 4K rear camera, the specs are exactly the same and only the exterior design has changed, and it’s not waterproof so it can only be installed inside the car. The RC18, on the other hand, is the new 2K cylindrical non-waterproof rear camera.

so rc17 is 4k rear for s1pm and n4ps
how about bitrate of rc17

RC11= 4K rear camera (waterproof)
RC18= redesigned 4k rear camera (not waterproof)
RC09= 2.5K rear camera
RC08= Driver Monitoring System camera
Thanks a lot for your attention to our new firmware updates! I just wanted to point out one small correction regarding the models:
RC18 = redesigned 2K rear camera (not waterproof)
RC17 = redesigned 4K rear camera (not waterproof)

Thank you!
Already fixed it
That explanation is everything I needed.

I want to update this thread after using the S1 Pro Max for nearly 6 months.
From my testing, the S1 Pro Max is very reliable.
I tested Vantrue SD cards and even different Samsung SD cards. All of them worked without issues.
High temperatures of 35°C or cold temperatures of -10°C were no issue either. It always starts to record without any problems.

The G sensor is on the sensitive side. To avoid unnecessary events, I lowered the settings for the front/rear and left/right down to 2.
Up/down is down to 0.
This will eliminate most false positives caused by bad roads or sharp braking.

The included power supply did not cause any issues. I was afraid that it could become loose and cause issues because it has a tapered shape, unlike the older power supplies from Vantrue.

After these months, I can confidently recommend it for anyone who is looking for a dual 4K dashcam.

Hello,

When will the redesign modules be available for sale?

The front unit looks quiet large Julian.

I do think that N4 series were on the large physical size, so what do you think in comparison?

The front unit is a bit thicker than other wedge shaped cameras that we know.
But the footprint isn't much larger.
I think it only seems like it.
I can take a few pictures of the N4 Pro S, S1 Pro Max and mabye a Viofo to compare the sizes.

Edit: Fixed typo
