VIOFO A229 Pro FIRMWARE

What format are you using 21.9?
No, 16:9
I probably didn't understand you, that’s what the translator said!!
Yes, 21:9 doesn't work on my iPhone either, only on Android in GU Auto!!
Viofo has not yet updated the iPhone application!

Thank you @LateralNW ! I started suspecting that the currently released iOS app has a bug/limitation - the modes are hardcoded and when dashcam reports a resolution that is not listed in the current iOS app, the app crashes. Well, app should not crash (that's a bug), but Viofo absolutely should release an updated iOS application ahead of FW 1.3 official release

Viofo team - any ETA on iOS app release? Many thanks in advance :)
@vvs49

In the App Store in Australia is an update to the Viofo app V 4.2.3
I've tested it for the 21:9 on the A229 Pro with the 3x cameras and it works fine.

Doing the update now and I’m noticing it updated the front and rear cams back to back automatically which is great. I didn’t get a prompt to format at any point though this time around.
When flashing the A229 Pro with the new firmware FWA229P_V1.3_240612 and EthсamTxFW_V1.3_240605,
if you put both files on one memory card, then both cameras are flashed one by one.

VIOFO team, many thanks for iOS app release! I confirm that it works well with 21:9 aspect ratio

ASIDE: is it my imagination or the new test FW indeed more stable under high temperatures? Before the upgrade, the dashcam would randomly glitch/restart while driving, and yesterday I was driving for few hours in extremely hot weather and it did not even blink...

As I may investigate from FW binary code, time interval for overheat detection (more than 111 degrees of Celsius) was enhanced up to 60 seconds from 10 seconds in previous release.

I meant the official firmware for v1.3.

I bricked the rear cam after updated to previous version of v1.3.
Me too. I just received the replacement rear cam and am also a little hesitant to try 1.3 . I will wait a while to see if any problems arise.

Funny thing that the rear cam that I received got the older v1.3 firmware on it already
Mine did not, it had the 1.2. I got mine from a local dealer and if i remember correctly, yours was from Viofo directly. That may be why. How is it working for you?

Looking at the md5 checksums for the official v1.3 firmware release for the A229 Pro/Plus front cameras and the rear camera, they are the same files that were made available via downloadable zip files on this site a few days ago. I label the versions downloaded in the zip files as "beta2" in my file repository.

This morning, I updated the A229 Pro 2CH with a rear camera in my main test car with the publicly available v1.3 firmware versions. Both the front and rear updates were successful. I defaulted the dash camera settings after the updates and I used the Android VIOFO app to select all of my customized settings.

I was expecting the A229 Pro 2CH (with rear camera) to survive my weekly 3-hour drive. It did not. It shutdown twice in low bitrate parking mode [two different parking mode sessions]. The outside temps were in the 81F-to-88F/27C-to-31C range. The passenger compartment temps reached the 103F-to-108F/39C-to-42C range while parked. Prior to today's firmware update, I had the special debug logging firmware installed, but with logging disabled. This A229 Pro configuration with the debug logging firmware installed did not shutdown with even hotter temps. I believe the other four dash cameras in the car all worked correctly in the same operating environmental conditions. I'm pulling the video files from the memory cards right now.

Dash Cameras In My Car
  • BlackVue DR970X-2CH [time-lapse parking mode]
  • Thinkware U3000-2CH [Radar parking mode]
  • VIOFO A229 Pro 2CH (with rear camera) [low bitrate parking mode - 2K QHD in low-bitrate parking mode]
  • VIOFO VS1 [low bitrate parking mode]
  • Vantrue N4 Pro 3CH [low-bitrate 1080p 15fps parking mode].

Work great so far. The previous unit for some reason have a weird yellow tint and really choppy.

we need the the version that won't shut down like your special debugging firmware !!

I bit the bullet and update my unit to the latest firmware. Work great so far.

Turn out my previous issue was the installer didn't know what he was doing with the wiring, so the power was unstable/too high setting on the battery protection, causing the unit to shut down at the wrong time during firmware flashing. And the v1.3 beta rear was not compatible with v1.2 official when downgrade.
