Viofo A329T (unboxing & first impressions) (Sony Starvis 2 IMX678, Wi-Fi 6/GPS, HDR, Novatek NT98530, 4K front + 2.5K telephoto + 2.5K rear, HDR all)

I haven't seen the A329S pricing yet, and the A329S offers flexibility if I want to add a rear camera so may be more valuable in the end
Well now that you mention it like that, it may be. But purely on paper between the two of what you initially compared, the A229 pro would be the far cheaper solution and the RTC400 on paper at least seems to be the same sensor and package...

I wonder if the A229 Pro (4K Front + RTC300) will be better value for money than the A329S variant (4K Front + RTC400)?

I think that a consideration would be how badly does one want the multiplexing channel capability of the A329S? If not that important, then cost-wise a two channel A229 Pro with the RTC300 would be a good choice.

However, with the A229 Ultra (so we are told) on the ramp for a launch, if theA229 Ultra has a telephoto and multiplex channels then it may be worth waiting for. Especially if the A229 Ultra has a price that is somewhat less than the A329S but inline with the A229 Pro.

So basically you've got the option of::

Front + Rear Camera

Front + Telescopic camera (Front)

Front + Waterproof (Rear? - Question Mark)

So if you want to use either the Telescopic on the A329 series, you sacrifice the rear camera, Correct?

On the A329 you sacrifice the rear if you use the Telephoto (can still have interior camera though), on the A329S you can use all three. Simple as that.

How is that might I ask please? If it's 2 channel then you can only have the Main Front unit + One other camera?

Did you mean you sacrifice the rear on the A229 Pro? The A329 is 1CH or 2CH, but doesn't support the RTC300 (coax vs USB-C connector).

Um read reply above your post where I clarified.

OK. I just had to go and check that the regular A329 doesn't support the RTC300, and I assume not the RTC400?

Was thinking a229 pro as three channel. Yes, a329 is only two channel max. A329s is three channel max.

I am sorry but can you please clarify? Did you mean the A229 is three channel max? Or is the A329s going to be 3 channel? And normal A329 is 2 channel?

I just said that, yes.

Well then a 3 Channel A329s is a good deal then. You won't lose rear camera. Front + Rear + Telescopic or Waterproof.
Makes it so one doesn't have to sacrifice the other, yes. At least now I'll be able to rip out my A229 Pro with telephoto and A329 front and rear, and just combine them into the one A329S unit.

This mish-mash of cable types between models is damnable, and partly the reason I just put a entire camera on the hatchback glass. As long as they keep the power USB-C I am OK usually; currently I have the A129 Pro (mini-USB) on the rear hatchback and it is crimped to an HK4, I will simply cut the mini-USB off and put the USB-C back on. In essence, I keep a main unit on the front and rear, it is just saner for me and all I need to do if fiddle with power connector to the dash cam.

@lufa6977 I think of doing it like this in my van. Are you using two BT buttons?

@viofo It would be nice if two (or more) main cams could sync by bt/wifi (date, time, crash, recording, etc.).
