VIOFO VS1 FIRMWARE / Update (2025-01-15)

The latest firmware for VS1 is available on the Viofo website.

Version: V1.1_240914

Change Log
1.Added: Match the BTR200 remote.
2.Fixed: Other bugs

am I the only one extremely annoyed by the fact that flashing a new firmware, completely reset the camera's settings?
it takes 1-2 minutes to flash the firmware, and 10-15 minutes to reconfigure it -
going through all settings, changing to 5Ghz wifi (wifi disconnects), changing wifi name (disconnects), changing wifi password (disconnects). so annoying

It's the case for just about every dash cam these days since it's running on a super capacitor and not a battery (to retain settings)

^^ i'm coming from a Mobius Maxi with a capacitor, and don't recall reconfiguring it after a firmware update. but it has been ages since i've done that, so I might be wrong here

Resetting the settings when updating the DVR does not depend on what is installed in it: a super capacitor or a battery.

Models A229 Pro/Plus do not reset the settings when updating the camera and you do not need to reset it to factory settings yourself.
But when updating A329, the settings are reset.
Perhaps in future firmware Viofo will make it so that A329 does not reset the settings when updating the firmware.

did anyone upgrade already and can detail what is "privacy mode"?

Viofo don't make it easy to update the camera firmware do they, I've been going round in circles on their website trying to download it onto a microSD?

Is it a problem for you to download the firmware?

No, I downloaded it from your link above, but it's not easy to find on the Viofo site without that link.

I also had a problem trying to update the camera with the firmware on the card, but discovered that it didn't like my high power capable USB 3 charger.
It worked fine with a standard USB 3 PSU.

In my opinion, there is nothing complicated there...
If you click on Support on the website: https://www.viofo.com/, you will get to the Download Center.
And there you can choose what you need: Manual, Firmware or APP.

the only thing annoying about Viofo VS1 firmware update, is that it deletes all the camera's settings (after the update) -
yes, i already mentioned it, but it holds me back from updating the camera every other month.

Yes the complete settings wipe is a pain, even if the basic settings are soon done anyway.
I really wish there was a way around this, CUZ it is annoying.

But it have been the norm for the over a decade i have been into dashcams.

You will have to accept the loss of 5 minutes of your time to update the DVR and set up the settings, or never update the DVR.
The updates include new features and optimizations, and to ensure the best performance and avoid potential system errors,
the standard process resets the settings to factory defaults.

I remember testing street guardian cameras, Rick would almost have new firmwares for me to test every 2 days.
But to make sure people got good cameras it was well worth it.

this is the 2nd update this month,
and it takes much longer then 5 minutes as:
after switching to 5ghz - camera restarts
change wifi network name - camera restarts
changing password - camera restarts
so it's annoying, and for me at least takes about 10-15minutes

I changed the SSID and my VS1 mini would no longer connect to the app with the stored password.
ChatGPT suggested to try the Viofo default: 12345678
... and that did the trick.
I had to delete the WiFi entry for the cam on my smartphone to get prompted for the password.
Once connected with 12345678 I changed the pw, deleted the entry on the smartphone again, typed in the new pw on the prompt and was done.
Just in case anybody runs into the same problem. 🙂
