You can stick the 2nd mount included in the box to the center of it. You can then press it against the window and the static cling will hold it up against the window.

it's technically just like that material that is used for screen protectors on smart phones so could DIY the same sort of thing without too much trouble

well hey i have some unused screen protectors for old phones... thanks for the info! sounds a lot easier than trying to use 3m command tape strips!
 
I'd like a different beep when the camera isn't recording due to an error, so it's obvious without looking at the tiny red REC LED. The screen is hidden behind the mirror in my car, so that's the only thing I can see to tell whether it's recording.

Mine had a 'card error' today (probably because I accidentally just pulled the USB cable out of my laptop last night, without cleanly unmounting it), and I only noticed because it hadn't recorded one trip yesterday, so I checked it was recording this morning. Formatting the card fixed it, but I might have gone for days without recording otherwise.

I'd recommend anytime you've had the card in a PC to format the card once you put it back in the camera
 
i agree though that the card error warning needs to be way more prominent. it needs to stay on screen forever, maybe flashing and maybe even beep loudly (even if sound is turned off) to alert the driver it's not recording. for a set and forget device where people may not even look at it once it's installed, there needs to be some obvious way to warn users when something is bad wrong like an sd card error.
 
I'm worried about leaving my dashcam in the car due to extremely hot weather. I don't know if some sort of heat flow would help. Not to mention my sunshade builds up even more heat going to the dashcam. Do you guys take take down your dashcams when it's extremely hot? I'd have to take it down everyday when going to work. I would like to set it and forget it.
 
I noticed that the date and time that are written to the microSD card are about 8 or 9 hours ahead of my local time zone (US Pacific Coast). Apparently the internal menu for setting the time zone is for superimposing the local time zone onto the image. Anyone notice this? Do you suppose this is a firmware bug? I would expect the file write date and time to be whatever the local setting is.

I tried that this time, but it still didn't work. The camera just randomly boots up saying 'Card Error' every now and again, but if I turn the car off and back on, it works fine, so the card is clearly OK.

And, as mentioned before, there's no audible indication of a problem, so unless you look at the tiny record LED and can actually see that it's not blinking when you can barely see it in daylight when it is blinking, you can't tell it's not recording.

It's a great camera for the price, except when it--silently--fails to do the very thing it's designed to do: record video.
 
It's a class 10 Sandisk Ultra card, which others seem to be using, too. Looks like the test program is Windows-only, so I can't run it here, but might be interesting to swap the card with the one from the rear camera and see if it makes any difference.
 
I haven't had any problems with Sandisk cards and this camera.

Regardless, compatibility with common, standard microSD cards would be very high on a camera wish list.

How about support for larger than 32GB cards?
 
Hi, I have found something annoying 🙂
I have changed the route to my work, different road... different vibrations...
Buttons has started creating annoying noise 🙂 When touch them slightly with finger, noise disappeared.

heat certainly does. on mine, i've noticed that on hot days, the camera slides up off the mount a LOT easier (looser) than it does on cold days. it also picks up engine vibrations at particular RPMs on hot days, where on cold days, you don't get any engine/road noise at all. to fix that, i added a small piece of adhesive felt to the mount, to sort of pre-tension it, and eliminate vibrations in the videos.
 
I've tried various materials, such as adhesive-backed velcro, "Gorilla" tape, painter's tape, and all melted or failed when parked in the hot sun.

One tape that I have had some longer-lasting success with is Scotch-brand Vinyl Electrical Tape. It's easy to affix and remove and doesn't leave much if any residue. I don't know if it would hold up a camera mount with a camera hanging from the mount, however.
