Wolfbox G900 Pro review (Starvis 2 4K), is the competition in Wolfbox's rear-view?

Spot on, there's no 4K front and rear rearview mirror models out on the market at the moment, to the best of my knowledge. IMX335 don't get me wrong, it was a very decent model for a few years but it's long in the tooth now.

If you're wanting decent rear camera quality I'd say you would have to sacrifice the rearview mirror form factor sadly. There is hope on the horizon cos I think some manufacturers are starting to implement the Starvis 2 1080p sensor with the long cabling for the rear modules, for the rearview mirror models, Imx662 from memory.

But yeah I would say we're maybe a year or two away from rearview mirror models having decent rear camera modules.

Wolfbox has it's issues but i would still pick it over the S500 if that model even comes into your purchasing equation, as that hasn't seen a widespread release nor been supported well in terms of firmware and bug fixes either. Plus appreciate the larger screen size on the Wolfbox

Comparing the G900 Pro to the Nexigo D90 Gen3, I like the HDR available on the Nexigo and in principle, I don’t like when companies like Wolfbox are so deceptive with fake 4K marketing. Finally releasing a unit with an IMX678 is great, but doesn’t automatically undo all the damage they’ve done otherwise IMO.

I think it was the lack of Starvis 2 that made me dismiss it rather than the 2K, as a mirror replacement has to foremost nail live view. I find the 2K quality of the A229's IMX675 fine live on my Android 10" screen, except it's essentially unusable because it's, well..., not live (delayed by about a second in 2k mode).

Will keep my eye on RVMs, but not yet convinced they can replace a real mirror (for me) having to compete with the Aussie sun and losing short distance visual acuity due to long distance glasses.
 
Wolfbox has released a firmware update for the G900 Pro, dated November 2024.

Official changelog:

- Reduce the probability of voice-activated false triggering
- Solve the issue that after setting the speed unit as KM/H in app, the speed unit in the video watermark is displayed as MPH
- Modify the problem of Italian and Japanese font
- Save the configuration after the angle adjustment of the rear cam in the preview interface
- Update the intelligent voice library

Upon installation I noticed new changes in the camera settings nor the companion app itself.

Some promising news for G900 Pro, as Wolfbox has been hard at work on improving image quality from both the front and rear cameras. Below are stills from beta firmware dated January 2025, that improves the rear camera quality and brightness of the image at night.

Will post here when the new firmware update is released. No word as if HDR has been added to the G900 Pro, hopefully it will be at some stage.

I definitely noticed IQ improvement especially at night although it can still improve a lot (I hope.) The best improvement I have noticed is the zoom adjustment. It is useful now and controllable. Tapping the mirror whilst zoomed does not bring it to default as have been in the previous FW. I wish it would remember the zoomed level though. Baby steps I guess. 😀

Overall, it is a nice FW update.

Good stuff , good to hear that they're listening to feedback and working on it. Long way to go before they reach Viofo / Vantrue / 70mai levels of refinement though but it's a start
 
Wolfbox has announced the new version of the G900 Pro, the G900 TriPro. Some hardware changes are on board, which are nice to see the removal of the older IMX335 with a 2024-release OmniVision sensor:

Some news in today that Wolfbox has announced an upgrade to the G900 Pro, the G900 TriPro.

The main changes are that the rear Sony IMX335 sensor has been swapped out for a 2024-release OmniVision OS04J10 four megapixel sensor that (on paper) can capture up to 60fps, but only does so at 2.5K at 30fps here on the G900 TriPro. It is an upgrade most definitely, as the pixel size has increased from 2.0 to 2.9 microns.

Also stated is the addition of HDR on all three channels (finally!) - front Starvis 2 IMX678, the OmniVision rear and an interior camera. All other existing features of the...

Additional firmware update (March 2025) released for the G900 Pro. This is for the new production batches of the G900 Pro that have removed the IMX335 and replaced it with the OmniVision OS04J10 rear camera (in-line with the G900 TriPro).

The version number is V2.1.2-250312 and is available for download at the link below.

I’m currently using the G900 model, but I’m extremely dissatisfied with the screen’s low brightness.


I installed the rear-view camera inside the car, behind tinted glass (to prevent the camera from getting dirty, since I noticed the rear window gets dirty very quickly).


So, on a bright day, it’s extremely difficult to see anything on the screen due to the screen’s low brightness and the lack of an option to increase it via software.


I understand someone might say, “You installed the camera behind tinted glass,” but this camera is designed for night driving — and my issues arise specifically on bright sunny days.


Can anyone comment on whether they experience similar issues, and how things are with this on the newer models: G900 Pro and G900 TriPro?

I'd like help please in identifying if I have the IMX335 or the OmniVision OS04J10 rear camera.

Or do I need to get the TriPro for the OmniVision? Are there videoclips online that compare the two?

I was driving with a friend recently who had a G900 Pro installed and he was really unhappy with it, particularly using the RVM cam at night. The rear cam sensor isn't particularly great so it does alright in the daytime and driving around well lit locations at night, but on darker roads, the camera really struggles and it's challenging to see what's going on behind you.

I would say it's the OmniVision camera as the other firmware version listed on their website was for the older version with the IMX335.
 
Thank you. Good to know I have the newer sensor.

I am waiting on the anti-glare film to help reduce the reflection on the screen.

Also, I have the rear camera inside the cabin for higher vantage point but it looks through a tinted rear windshield so the image is dimmer than how it normally would be. I am contemplating installing it outside.
