I have a DR800G Dash cam, this does not have a feature to turn cam on and off, unless I unplug for camera which is a pain.

Camera is hard wired. I am far from smart so looking for something to put in easly

Was thinking of pulling the camera power out of the camera adding some sort of button, with a switch? then plugging from the button into the camera.

any one done this and have links to what they used? I am unable to cut wires so looking for something easy.
Thanks Craig

Do you want to fully kill the dashcam altogether? If so, you could wire in any sort of on/off switch to press a button and decide whether or not the dashcam gets power.

If you want to only turn parking mode on/off and always have it recording when driving, you could use a Powermagic Pro which has an on/off switch specifically for that.

Some evidently have gone the easy way and put in an off/on switch in the ground wire. No ground, no dash cam.

Hi ConnorJ,
From the main web site...

Look for IN LINE DC Plugs & Sockets...

Buy the 2.5 mm ones as they are more robust.

If the store doesn't have them, try another store?

Or... Try a SYDNEY ...suburbs one.

I know that our local South Coast (Wollongong) one has them.

I thought it has to be smaller on the other ends? Im confused on what I need to get?.

The 2.5 mm I referred to is the size of the PIN in the centre & that mates with the INLINE Socket...That's all.

Allsame for the 2.1 mm.
2.5's can carry a tad more current.

Sorry but you'll have to cut the cable/s & solder them to the Plugs & Sockets.

The CENTRE pin is always the +ve....that's POSITIVE.

If you haven't got one, buy a cheap digital multi meter. Can be had for about $30.00 AU.

Here's another link for you to try...

It is unfortunate that your dashcam does not have a button or an option to power it off. My Viofo has the power on/off button. I have been trying to remember to power my hard-wired Viofo down after getting into my garage. In case I forgot this, the downside is only to “waste” my car battery power before reaching 12.4V. In your case with a switch installed in the power line, you will need to switch the power back on every time. Otherwise, you are not going to have a working dashcam.
