Yi Camera Locks Up When Plugged into USB

I just got my Xiaomi Yi camera, and so far it works great, except... I want to plug it into my laptop USB for power while I take a long (4-6 hour) time lapse sequence. I have 2 laptops, both running Windows 7 64 bit Pro. On one laptop (HP) the camera works normally using manual controls while plugged into a USB slot. On the other (Dell) it powers on, then locks up - can't take a photo, turn on wifi, etc. I can turn it off. Any ideas on what might be causing this?

sp5it, very good - you nailed it! It works with USB3 on the HP, not with USB2 on the Dell. Any idea if there are any work arounds for USB 2?
