Review: Firefly 6S 4K Wi-Fi Sports Action Camera with Gyro, NT96660 & Sony IMX078 (Gearbest.com)

Gibson is thinking about this "4K" video from the Git2: https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/threads/gitup-git2-official-support.14625/page-2#post-193910

I haven't tried it in VLC but it behaves sensibly in everything I have tried.

With the Git2, you have to pay a little extra for an LCD display, but it looks like you also get superior image quality thrown in, it uses a different Sony sensor...

Strange, I still can not find any of my posts here or there that could be quoted before ? ;)

Also I edited my post... I w was thinking of Nigel or Niko's post on the git2, not this one. Sorry.

Ok, now I got it: @ "or Niko's"

It's simple math.
1080p is 1920x1080 so 4k should be double that both horizontal and vertical, i.e. 1920x2=3840 x 1080x2 =2160 but it's 2880x2160 instead.
Yes, simple maths.

The main issue is that the cameras don't have enough speed to encode and store all the pixels, and then a cheap memory card might not have the speed to store the result, so they miss some columns out to reduce the workload but include all the rows. The 2880 x 2160 is the number that is actually stored. When displayed, the player has to insert some interpolated pixels to get it back into the correct aspect ratio and true 4K resolution - 3840 x 2160 to fit the display.

It should quite hard and probably impossible for someone with average eyesight to see the difference from full 4K when viewed at a sensible distance, it is still far more resolution than 1080. I don't understand what all these other numbers with a few extra pixels are about!

HD TV often does the same to reduce the bandwidth required since is hard to see the difference and nobody notices.

@Nigel
Well it may be easy to see on a 4k monitor but I don't have any at the moment.
I have bunch of flat screen 1080p TV's and don't want to throw them away.

4K video after firmware updated to V2.1 2015-10-29:
GYRO on and WDR on: Youtube may take little bit to show 4K mode.

I noticed it flashes 'Card Low Speed' warning/error when I used class 4 card and set to 4k mode.
Good feature.

Firmware to 2.2 is available as of 20151105.

I've been trying to get one of these for review for my Youtube channel. It's one of the few with a usable 4K. I'm doing filmmaking videos about shooting with these small cameras. They need an LCD screen.

Firefly 6S 4k @ 24 fps video on Syma X8C quadcopter:
Firmware upgraded to 2.2 (20151105).

It was having hard time lifting it even without waterproof housing but then I got low battery warning so I'll try again after charging battery.

Another try on board Syma X8C after fully charging battery but it's no way Jose.
Too weak to carry anything except the provided cr#p camera.

Probably faulty mate as there are people running those and carrying other cameras fine

Was quite shocked and left bemused as to what goes on in this shop with loads of cars in the carpark

What sort of dodgy stuff goes on in here...

Maybe but it flies great without the camera strapped.

Maybe Nautilus will work since its only 60grams with a credit card mount.

After upgrading firmware to 2.2, I forgot to turn the 5 minute cycle recording on.
However, it by default only records 15 minutes clips.

Also, a note:
Gyro ON and Fisheye Removal can't be done together.
It's only one at a time.

Firefly 6S as a dashcam with provided frame and aftermarket tripod suction mount:

Highest available is 1440p at youtube.

4K available here: Drivers running red..

Daytime video as a dashcam is pretty good.
Distant objects are not very sharp but overall looks good natural tone and great resolution.

Time for night videos:
Not too great when it comes to night.
Close to car in headlights are
6S: Close to car in headlights are okay but anything little farther away are blurry and lack details in comparison.
Still much better than 5S though. 5S is way too dark.

From underground parking garage to busy downtown streets with lots of lights:
(gyro off, fisheye removed)

Residential streets with sparse street lights:
