Hello everyone, was told about this forum and so far its great so thought i would create an account. Im a new owner of a A119 V3 just picked up yesterday here in canada.Been reading on a bunch of cams and decided to go with this one.

Now i have yet to install into my truck yet but whats the best settings to use for it. Ive been watching videos and reading but everyone says different and i thought you pros here would probably have a better idea what to try out.

I notice just turning it on and pointing out my window the picture on the screen does not look that great to be honest im just hoping that its the screen on the cam and once connected to computer the quality will actually be great.
Yes i removed the blue sticker on the lens haha.
50 or 60hz?
30fps or 60 fps? hdr on or off?
then what ever else that should be changed.
I dont have the filter. Just the camera with gps module.
Sorry for the long message here.

You will get many different replies as we all have our favourites.

I'll kick it off with my favourite :

Firmware 1.03
2560x1440
30fps
High bitrate
WDR off (later firmware does have HDR)
EV 0.0

I don't use parking mode so all related settings are either low or off as available.

@Karagandinez

The above day screen capture at 101kph is far better, sharper, than the ones I was getting at even 80kph under 2.6t

I wonder why ?

I've scoured my archive and here is an example :

2.6t - 50mph - blurred sign :

1.03 - 50mph - far sharper :

This is why I'm stuck on 1.03 !

If you upload videos or screenshots, do not forget to specify the firmware and settings of the DVR.

I wonder why ?

I think you would need to compare both firmware versions under the identical lighting conditions to really be able to see any differences.

In your two examples, one is under diffuse, overcast lighting with gray skies and no shadows, while the other image is in brighter conditions with sunshine, a blue sky and hard distinct shadows. So compared to v2.6T, the v1.03 version would be shooting at a higher shutter speed. So, I believe that's why.

I will have to #2 DM post here, those 2 frame grab are Orange / Tangerine comparison

I live in Edmonton and so experience a similar temp range as do you in MN. My a119 v3 has never let me down.

My settings are similar to those of Kremmen. I use FW 1.03 build 20190911. Newer FW gives more bells and whistles but I prefer the images from 1.03 build 20190911. To my eyes they are more contrasty, more saturated and not as soft as those from newer FW. I use 60 Hz, 30 fps. One word of warning. If you find the GPS time stamp to be off, adjust the time zone. I can’t remember the details as to why but seems to recall it being due to the satellite’s handling of DST.

I do use Parking mode and power it using a USB power pack. I use Auto event detection, medium setting for G sensor and motion detection.

Thanks for the input.

That 1.03 shot is in brighter conditions. I'll dig out a 1.03 shot in subdued conditions to compare as I must have some.

Watch this space, as they say .....

Found hopefully a better comparison :

I've gone the other way with the 1.03 in darker conditions, but still sharper.

Well, OK, the second one does look better but to really be scientific about this, maybe we need to take up a collection so we can send you a second camera so you can test both firmware versions simultaneously! :)

:)

If I could achieve the same clarity as Karagandinez I'd be quite happy with 2.6t but I just can't find it at any speed above ~30mph.

I did lookup the best software to achieve screenshots and VLC came up very near the top, which I'm using anyway. I did find during that search the VLC 'E' hotkey to progress frame by frame, that is useful, but no help under anything 2.x

I think I'll stick with 1.03 as it does seem to work for me and on a good summers day with the sun behind me the colours are actually quite good.

Back to the old - whatever works for you

Im going to basically copy these settings and give it a spin(y)

One thing I wonder with the 2.5 fw update is this resolution: 2880x2160. This may be 4:3 format but it can be good for a big rear window like on my car. I noticed the same 2.5 fw update removed the fake 4k. Does someone know if this new resolution is also fake 4k? (i know it is not actual 4k but it has the same pixel height as 4k)

No idea. My favorite resolution: 2560x1080
That's enough for me.;)
