The purpose of this thread is to document how long it takes to download a 1 Minute video clip over Wi-Fi from Viofo dash cams, (past, present, and future).
In an effort to standardize my test method I chose 1 Minute clips with the maximum file size, (highest Bitrate).
I used the cameras' 5GHz band where available.
If you’re the type of person that dislikes having to depend on Wi-Fi & APPs to download video clips to your smartphone in the field I have two alternatives for you.
Starting in 2024 Viofo is developing an new Data Transfer Method utilizing a wired connection with USB2.0 Type-C to Type-C data cable capable of 20MB/s transfer speeds on iPhone 15, and newer, (15MB/s Android devices).
The current implementation is "clunky" and requires streamlining to simplify the process.
Once they get it ironed out I expect Viofo to replace the included 50cm USB Type-A to Type-C data cable with the aforementioned Type-C to Type-C cable.

The second alternative is a plug & play SD Card Reader that utilizes the default iPhone Files APP;
Using this SD Card Reader is easy as pie.
It automatically detects when connected, and provides 18-20MB/s transfer speeds.

Using this SD Card Reader is easy as pie.

There are of course much faster SD Card readers available, but maybe not for older iPhones with lightning connectors?

With USB-C phones (including iPhone 15 onwards), there are plenty of faster SD card readers available.
You can also plug the camera directly into the phone to use the camera as a card reader, but that will give speeds similar to PP's slow card reader, at least for most of the dashcams, the new ones maybe faster...

Which SD card did you use?

If you have another card with different reading speeds, it would be good to be able to sample or specify which memory card this data belongs to.
Thus, it can form an idea about whether memory card speeds change download times.

Doesn't the newer iPhones with USB-C have USB 3.x so that would mean much faster speeds. Android has had USB-C since the dawn of time, but unless they're flagship or higher end phones they're usually stuck at USB 2.0 speeds.

Most of the dashcams are limited in speed by being USB 2 and by their card reader, I don't think any of the current ones get above 20MB/s over USB-C, maybe the A229 Plus/Pro do? The future ones will be significantly faster.

The iPhone 15 / 15 Plus have USB-C 2.0 connection ports. The iPhone 15 Pro / Pro Max have USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 connection ports. The cable included with the all iPhone 15 phones is only capable of USB-C 2.0 transfer speeds.

Did you finally upgrade from your iPhone 6S?
I won’t be able to get an iPhone with a Type-C connector until Walmart sells the iPhone SE 4 for $199 on Black Friday 2025.
