In addition to the option to remove the mount and relocate it within the car or in another car, it looks like this suction cup mount will position the camera further down from the glass than the adhesive mount. That could be useful in some situations, perhaps to mount the camera behind the rear view mirror and have the interior lens visible below the bottom edge of the mirror.

It could be the best all around rental car/travel dashcam with this system.
Be safe while driving but also capture the travel while on foot.

That might work with hiding the mount behind the mirror.

I think here in Denmark where stuff on the windscreen are not really legal, such a setup will still be OK as it would only be what little of the camera are below mirror that would impede visibility, and where it is mounted is way up high on the dotted area.

Here in Germany devices on the windshield should not block the view. I guess this would still be okay.

Legality of sticking stuff to the front windshield varies by state here in the US. In general, you're good if it is out of the driver's line of sight so it doesn't obstruct the view. Like you, I haven't had any issues.

In Denmark putting something on windscreen is generally OK if it is at the very bottom, but you cant have stuff dangling from the mirror, not eve a little air / smell thing.
But i have gotten my car inspected with 2-3-4 dashcams in front of the roof mounted mirror, but they are also pretty much obscured from view by it.

Even worse judging from local COP TV programs it is not a law they bother upholding, so you will see a lot of BS in cars, one day i saw a guy with phone on top of tablet mounted on windscreen right in the middle, and both screens on, you could see him from a large distance with that huge lit up area.

I got kindly sent the new GPS Mount for the E360.
This mount doesn't have a normal lever like most suction cups do. In this case the GPS module is the lever. It has to be turned 90°.
Once it holds on it is on.

The sticky GPS mount is a little bit taller than the Suction Cup Mount.

A quick drive yesterday showed no vibration in the video. It is a very sturdy unit.

The GPS mount allows for much higher flexibility. Mounting locations and the car can quickly be changed.

Nice photos and vid mate. Great that at least Vantrue is giving the option with the suction mount for those users wanting extra flexibility.

Will be interesting to see where they go next and how they improve it with firmware updates

It seems like a nice accessory. In my review I indicated that perhaps in vehicles with very vertical glass, such as buses, trucks, motorhomes, etc., the adhesive mount might not give enough angle to correctly orient the camera, but from the photos you have taken it seems that the suction cup mount provides more play.

Yes, it does allow for more angles than the normal mount and allows for vertical mounting.

Way better flexibility with this suction cup mount.

My windshield is almost too shallow an angle to set the E360 to horizontal with the regular adhesive mount. I have mine aimed as far down as possible, which is just OK.

I like the look of the suction mount for use in a temporary vehicle.

Hello Julian, Thank you for your suggestion about the LED light. I have forwarded it to our team for consideration. If you find the light distracting, you can turn it off temporarily by going to Drive Record Setup > REC Status Light and disabling it.

There doesn't seem to be a separate setting for the recording light in parking mode?
I checked with the latest firmware and the Vantrue app.

Yes, you’re correct. There isn’t a separate setting for the recording light in parking mode. If you turn off the LED light, it will remain off in both recording mode and parking mode.

The recording LED is not much use for those of us in right-hand drive cars. I use the 30s screensaver to make sure it's recording (and in the right mode etc) before the screen turns off.

Quick little update.
The suction cup mount holds on very well. No issues with heat cycling from -6°C outside to 24°C inside.
No vibrations to report.
A little bit more movement to tilt it would be good. With my windshield, I am at the limit of the mount to angle it down. I would prefer a little less sky.

When looking at the dashboard it can be noticed that some textures start to become noisy. Give us more bitrate please.
Since I haven't been able to capture plates of oncoming traffic at normal speeds so far, I will try HDR on all the time. I heard it might improve the chances.

Parking mode with Low Frame Rate set at 10FPS is also recording everything as intended. The files that are recorded play at 30fps, meaning the video runs at 3x the speed. I might switch to a different mode since it won't record audio.
The Low Bitrate option currently limits the total resolution. I will have to check how noticeable the reduction in resolution is.

I noticed some settings in the camera menu that are not available in the Vantrue app.

The lens that is used for motion detection can be manually selected.

There is a feature that will upload collision detection videos. I have not tried this, since I am using a different parking mode.

There is an option to select a delay for push notifications. I am not sure why anyone would want a delay if something is happening.

In the next few pictures, I went through each video frame for frame to see if plate capture was possible. Unfortunately, it was not.

Plate capture during the day can be possible if the light is in favor of the camera. HDR is on.

No chance at night to capture this plates.

E360 conclusion

After using the E360 for a few weeks, I have some thoughts. The idea of a 360 degree dashcam is definitely interesting, and to my knowledge, Vantrue is the first to bring something like this to the market. The wide coverage is great, especially for parking surveillance, since you can see pretty much everything happening around the car. I also like that it works with the LT01 module, allowing you to check in remotely via LTE if needed. The interior camera quality is solid, making it useful if you want footage from inside the car.

One thing I really appreciate is the suction cup mount, which makes it super easy to install and remove. This also makes the E360 a great option for travel. You can use it in rental cars as a dashcam and then take it out to record 360 degree videos in your free time.

That being said, there are some limitations. Reading license plates is difficult, especially beyond 5-10 meters or at night. The nighttime image quality isn’t great, which is a bit of a letdown. We’ve seen other Starvis 2 equipped cameras perform much better in low-light conditions. Hopefully, a firmware update can improve this in the future.


Verdict:

For parking surveillance, the E360 is really solid, especially if you want full coverage around your car. I have yet to find a dashcam that records so much around the car with so little installation effort. It’s also a handy travel companion, as the portable design makes it easy to use in rental cars and for recording 360 degree videos on the go.

However, as a standalone dashcam, it has its drawbacks. If you need clear license plate captures, this isn’t the best choice. It works best as an extra camera alongside a traditional dashcam. In combination with the new E1 Pro, it could make for a great duo.

Whether this is the right dashcam for you is a personal choice. Vantrue took a bold step in creating something innovative and new. A 2 in 1 solution that combines a dashcam with a 360 degree camera. For a first attempt, the camera gets a lot right but also leaves room for improvement.
