70mai Dash Cam Battery Pack - Test & Review PP

Hahahaha. Today I leaned more about battery shipping than anything else.

It was one of the many things I had to know and deal with at one time in my career. Most people do not understand hazmat shipping requirements at all, even those that are influencers and writers. People may know they cannot ship or bring certain batteries on a plane, but they never know why.

UPS Flight 6

Most airlines, probably all, now carry fireproof bags or containers to put passenger owned burning/smoldering batteries and devices in. Things most people do not know or think about.

Just got the tracking number. From AZUSA, CA via FedEx.
They haven’t told me anything about additional fees. (So I assume they have these in stock).
Will do.
Ps. Did you change your handle?
Update:
Didn’t move far yesterday, I thought, “damn it, Ben maybe right…. They’re flying it in from China…..” until finally today I got an update that it moved from Azusa to Acadia Cali,
Whole 21 miles for yesterday.

They did at least gave me an expected arrival date, which would be next Tuesday. I suppose, that does count as 5 business days.

most dont know shipping at all, just think it is a box you ship off or get.

I have sailed with fluids, if not bad just gasoline, enough to fill many - many - many Olympic sized swimmingpools.
When bad, the dams cargo started to boil at around 10 deg C and often just pronouncing the name of the stuff was enough to give you cancer.

I also as a fully trained transport technician ( what used to be called a trucker here ) have the dangerous goods certificate.

In the US, if you are going on holiday and have one of the BIG powerbanks, well the good folks at TSA will not let you take that onboard a plane.

Chances are your order is being handled by a 'fulfillment center', that center may be a business that warehouses and contracts out space and shipping for foreign companies or, in some cases it is actually an individual that is keeping specific products in their home and shipping from there. If an individual, often there is a family/employee connection with the manufacturer.

Your shipping number is a FedEx number? You may find that FedEx hands it off to USPS for local delivery.

I just didn’t want it to be flew in from China, and get stuck somewhere with what’s going on right now. As long as it gets here in good shape, it doesn’t bother me who is handing the day to day operations in the US.
I just ordered something from eBay, and it came directly from amazon…. Probably one of those drop shipping company that happens to be managed at an Amazon warehouse

Is there any converter that can convert from usbc to the high current that you would get from a fuse box to charge this thing at home? More in the interest of science than a specific use case. Although I guess If im not driving for a while I could bring it in the house to charge it. I know I can just use the ciagrette lighter adaptor from my powerstation but I was wanting to see if I can get a faster charge or close to a fuse box type charge using the usb c port on my powerstation.

A typical USB port will be limited to just 2-3 amps max. There is no way to convert this to a higher current. If you are charging a dedicated battery pack, you should be looking at a direct to battery connection as the safest option. Pulling high current (anything above 6-7A) from a utility outlet or a fusebox could be asking for trouble.

Got here today. As promised here’s everything that I can see. Can take more pix if needed. 😬

Hello everyone, I'm giving you some feedback following the installation of my 70Mai battery pack yesterday. I completed the installation very quickly because all my connections were already made with the installation of my two 70Mai 4G kits, so it was child's play.
I assume the battery pack was fully charged when I turned off my vehicle yesterday at 6:09 PM. I received my pack with 3 charging LEDs, and I drove for about 25 minutes, which would normally be enough to charge the battery to 100%.

In short, my vehicle is equipped with two 70Mai 810S Dashcams, one in the front and one in the rear, and so I installed the secondary cameras that film the driver and passenger (in case of attempted theft).

This gives me a total of four cameras in the vehicle.

I can tell you that the battery pack worked from 6:09 PM to 4:41 AM for the first dashcam and to 5:07 AM for the second, according to the two app notifications. Don't ask me why there's a 26-minute gap between the two cameras because I have no idea.

So, about 11 hours of monitoring, which is pretty decent, given the tests conducted by @Chuck McCoy .

So I went to check my battery pack at 5:30 AM, and it still has only one LED lit, so I assume there's still a few hours of power left. I think the 4G kits still protect the battery at 11.8V, which they shouldn't because the battery is designed to be completely drained, unlike the vehicle battery, right? Tell me if I'm wrong.

1st Question: Do you know if 70Mai plans to release an update to turn off the battery protection feature? The kit was released almost six months ago, and I still see that the feature doesn't exist.
Do you know if 70Mai is aware of this 11.8V battery protection issue with their Battery Kit?

2nd Question: I need a few more hours of surveillance so that at least 7:00 a.m. the cameras don't turn off so I can leave for work. Given my current setup, do you think it would be wise to split the two cameras? One connected to the vehicle's battery and the second to the 70Mai Battery Kit?

Thanks everyone.

Yesterday I ordered a pair of voltage sensitive relays (VSR) from AliExpress to see if they can be used to charge batteries from a constant source only, like a car's battery/alternator, without using the ACC trigger/signal input.

Pretty sure they are comming from China.
I usually just pay the listed price and tax and shipping if applicable when placing the order on AliExpress and it takes about 2-4 weeks for the item to arrive at my address.
I will let you know if there are any changes in the process with the introduction of new tariffs.
Well, I received two Voltage Sensing Relays (VSR) from China as usual.
No tariffs or extra charges or extra fees.

Very good that you didn't get affected, but going forward you might... : https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-04...-trump-cracks-down-on-cheap-imports/105186260

AliExpress was mentioned on other websites as being in that group too. Fast and fluid situation..

Anyone has issues with the usb c port on that battery pack? I was powering the van true e1 pro for a while and then it just stopped outputting to the vantrue. I tested the same usb c cable on a power station with the camera and it works.

AliExpress has been good about listing tariffs on their site right next to the purchase price, so you know what’s coming. I hope others behave in a manner that is similarly transparent.

I don't see that when I'm on AliExpress perhaps cos I live in Oz, but good that they do that so users have a better idea of what's coming 🙁

Ha, that’s because you’re from a “normal” country 😉

Jumping in here real quick instead of starting a new thread, but I’ve been using the 70mai battery as my mobile / travel battery for testing and on trips. However, I’ve noticed that the connector and wiring is a bit flimsy. Check out the backside of my hardwire cable connector.

IMG_4371.webp

The connector itself has started coming apart and I’ve had to put the yellow and dark gray pieces back together several times now, but more importantly, the wiring is starting to slide out and some of the individual strands are getting dangerously close to touching and shorting the battery.

It doesn’t help that I do plug and unplug the cables from time to time and it’s not a permanent and untouched install, but still I don’t see these same durability issues from other batteries that have similarly been in and out of service for years since they use bigger and beefier cables and connectors.

Correctomundo!
Documented, reported, requested improvement in writing with video explanation with MR60 connector & 12AWG OFC Pure Copper wire October 27, 2024.
Thank you for your real world testing, (I rarely leave my garage). lol

Wow, it’s a short trip from your image to returning to a burned out shell of a car at the end of the day! A fuse may or may not provide salvation in such a situation. A few strands of wire can overheat and start a fire without necessarily blowing a fuse. This is why strain relief for cables is so important.

My first concern is if that is the way the harness arrived from the factory, then there is a huge problem. The AMASS MR30 is an excellent connector, 15 amp max for metal (wire and connector), and 30 amps for housing. Housing must hold up more so than the metal. The max current though is 15 amps, max wire is 16 AWG, though you can go smaller based on current needs. That is a piss-poor soldered connector and is a fire hazard, unless fuses kick in quick enough. 🙂

The outer wire sheath should be flush with the metal half-barrel connector the wire goes into, and there should be a heat-shrink tube around the soldered connector and following the wire for about a centimeter or so. If you can solder I would certainly re-solder the connections, or find someone local that can do it for you.
