Thinkware U3000 Pro Review

It's more hotter cos it's humid, guessing North America is just dry heat like it's here in a lot of Australia. I would anticipate that they would be able to test this quite well, no matter whether China or other regions in south east Asia. Don't think they'll be testing it in the Pacific countries though, that'll be even worse with the humidity 🤣
Humidity doesn't make anything hotter and 'dry heat' doesn't make anything colder, the temperature is what it is - either in shade or direct (or indirect) sunlight, the perception of temperature is affected by humidity (or lack of it). Generally testing of electronics, cars, aircraft components etc. are done in environmentally controlled buildings so as to vary one condition at a time and measure any effects.
I was involved in 'real world testing' of vehicles some years ago, it was a pain as various environmental variables had to be logged before, during and after whatever test we were doing - repeatedly - on each day. I'd imagine dashcam testing is on a par with the level of documentation, measurement and 'fun' involved.

Video dropping soon

Thanks for the video! Cool to see some details like the radar portion in the rear cam rotating with the lens so that it stays facing directly behind.

HDR on the front cam does look like it helps, but I'm still a little underwhelmed by the nighttime video from the front cam. I'm curious how much of an improvement there is with the rear cam going from Starvis to Starvis 2.

The big thing with the U3000 rear camera's radar feature not working was that the rear camera cable was not getting fully inserted into the rear camera cable connector.

The problem was that the rear camera cable would easily push into the connector on the rear camera and that's where some users would stop inserting the cable. A typical approach for USB computer cables. That would result in the rear camera being powered and video recorded for the rear camera, but the rear camera radar system was not powered and/or connected with the front camera since the connector pins in the rear camera cable had slightly different lengths. If you pressed in the rear camera cable until there's a slight "click" that would "lock" the rear cable into place and all of the pins in the cable were in contact with the corresponding pins in the rear camera connector port, the rear camera and the rear radar feature worked.

If the cable is the same [which it is], that could still be an issue for people having problems with the rear camera radar feature "not working". I know Thinkware improved how the rear cable "snaps" into place in later U3000 production cameras/cables. Thinkware added more info in their help system about making sure the rear camera cable is fully inserted until it "clicks" into place after I found the root cause this issue:

Same here - I think if I had a U3000, I wouldn't be upgrading on the strength of the improvements from HDR alone, it looks like an incremental rather than fundamental change.

They have added LTE/ 3 channel options without the use of the multiplexer module. SO I do think they are valid upgrades.

ok other question
what really different blackuve 970plus between black970plus2?
only hdr also?
No idea have not tested a Blackvue in a year.

LTE or third camera are only used if they’re something you want or need, so yes, they’ve added capabilities, I wouldn’t call them upgrades in the same way as HDR though.
That said, for me it’s still looking a worthwhile upgrade from my Q850, still not sure if i’ll be wanting or needing the LTE/4G connectivity module but of course, it can always be added later.

Mine is version 2.3.4 but thats on an apple device

Just had a look on the UK/eu Thinkware site to see if it's available yet (it isn't), and noticed the photo shows a socket on the side that the review item above has a blank covering it, any guesses as to what it might be for?

My guess is another camera input, leaving the USB-C available for connectivity or other expansion.
