Thinkware U3000 Pro Review

Hi, just ordered one of the IR cabin cameras, would you know if there is a extension cable available so it could actually be fitted to the rear screen facing forward if anyone wanted to, can see some listed but not for the U3000 pro cabin camera. Thanks
I'd imagine that any decent quality USB-C extension cable would do the job.

It is my guess as we have talked about this on another video about region based apps
u are right
They all answered my questions

Have just installed the U3000 Pro and gone through the setting etc. and just noticed on my old U3000 I could enable or disable the led for the rear camera separate to the front cam, however there is no facility showing to be able to do this with the U3000 Pro , there does appear to be the led on the camera but nothing to turn it on or off, just wondered if that is how it is now and off all the time.

Cheers

Hi there,

The security LED on the U3000PRO will only be lit if there's a motion detection and no option to turn on/off

Are you referring to just the rear camera as you can certainly turn the front camera led on and off, change the mode and the led effect ?

I'm trying to decide between the Viofo A329, A229 pro or this Thinkware model. Which would you recommend? I am mostly concerned about the battery life of my vehicle as I have seen some users having their batteries drained by the Viofo cameras. I have used an older Thinkware camera and my son has an older Thinkware camera and we have never had a problem with battery drain. Thanks!

I personally cannot comment on the Viofo, as far as the Thinkware cameras are concerned I have been using various models of them for over 15 years and have never had a issue with one in all that time, as far as draining the battery I have never had that happen to me, they have all been fitted to Range Rovers I have had and currently own and believe me me if you are going to get battery trouble it will be with a Range Rover😆, but saying that I have always set the camera cut off time to 24hrs.

Are you planning to use parking mode? What is your expectation of the dash camera? Lots of stuff to consider.

I would direct your question to this thread instead

I will check it out. My experience has been with 2 different Thinkware dash cameras & both were positive. I never had any battery issues with them. I was considering the Viofo because it was cheaper and seemed to have a better camera. I don't drive my car every day and it sits in my garage. I read that some experienced battery drain when the parking feature was turned off. So, I'm leaning toward sticking with the brand I know & spending the extra money.

One other question - would you get the bundle with the obd cable or the hardwiring cable? The 1st Thinkware camera was hardwired into my car & when it died & was sold, the camera went with the car. So, the OBD cable seems like a good option. Thanks again!

Mine came with the OBD cable, but looking at the cable if you really feel the urge you could simply cut the OBD plug off and hardwire the lead into the fusebox if you wanted to, rather than buy another lead if you changed your mind and wanted it hardwired at a later date.

Similar here, I've been using Thinkware in various LR products for about twelve years - never had them cause any noticeable battery drain, even with the battery protection feature disabled.
I was hoping to upgrade to a U3000 Pro but when it came to fitting one, for me, in my car, it's just too visually intrusive, which is a shame.

Is it safe to install without battery and still use LTE parking mode or radar?

Need more information pertaining to your question? Do you drive regularly? Where do you park? How long do you plan to use parking mode for 24 hours? 1 hour? Need more information.

Yes I drive 5–7 days a week. I park at work and home. Plan to use parking mode the whole time and be able to view live feed.

Also want to install over tint as my front windshield is tinted.

I would definitely have a battery pack

If someone approach the vehicle from the side completely out of view from the front and rear camera, will radar (set to the closet distance 1m) detect motion and start recording? Correct me i am wrong but i dont believe the interior cam has radar so even though if one opt for it will not do anything correct?

radar is only available on front and rear

If you only use radar, then you could be ok without a battery. However, radar cannot be used at the same time as LTE. For LTE, you'll be looking at other parking modes like motion sensor. Depending on the amount of motion, it could drain your car's battery and I'd suggest getting a dedicated battery instead (7500 mAh seems to last me about 15-20 hours when full and in motion sensor with LTE (though, my LTE module constantly disconnects due to connectivity issues, so I'm not sure if that reduces any drain).
