Actually...that lapse was already known to testers and manufacturers. It is an acceptable loss in imaging when the switch happens. As Karagandinez mentioned elsewhere, it would be best if manufacturers who employ this feature let users know about it.
 
It's been there ever since we started seeing timed HDR in Starvis 1 dashcams, perhaps 5 years ago

Not everyone likes recording a video for every little thing...
Information regarding the video pause caused by the timer has been available in my thread since October 2025.
At that time, the duration was 5 seconds.

 
Isnt Viofo taking 20 seconds changing over with no recording?
Each model has its own specific duration of lost time in video files when the HDR timer triggers.
For example, on the A229 Pro model, this pause amounts to 14 seconds per day. I haven't measured it on other models...
 
Feature Request: QR activated Garage Mode -

Why? If I park inside my garage no parking mode needed, but if I park outside in my driveway, parking mode would run as normal. The problem is that GPS lockout radius can't detect the 10-20ft different to know if I'm in the garage or in the driveway.

Possible solution
Idea #1: If a preconfigured QR code is detected on the inside of the garage, that can trigger the parking mode you want to be in (enabled/disabled/etc). This QR code would obviously need to be unique for each dash camera system. I could see a "training" menu on the app where you print out your qr code and it would scan it. That QR code would only work to specific GPS location and it would have a delay to disable the parking mode. The delay would prevent someone from flashing it in the camera and then immediately doing what they want to your car. Maybe a customizable 5min delay or something.

Idea #2: I know some security camera will take a snapshot of an environment to better help with detecting motion. Kind of like fingerprinting the surrounding and looking for the changes. Possible this is something we can do here, you park in the garage go into the app and the dash camera stores a image of your garage via the front and rear camera. So when the parking more is triggered in the future it checks for any similarities with the stored images after a set delay and then maybe once per hour. I think we still need for it to do a recurring check for situation like leaving your garage door open, so you still want the parking more to activate. The front and rear camera would kind of act like two factor authentication where the current environment for both camera needs to match the previously stored snap shots. And again this would only function as preconfigured GPS location. I would imagine this is more of a software and hardware resource intensive process compared to the QR code idea. That said this would be way ahead of the game compared to other products out there.

I think that is a very good idea.
Perhaps because you already have a technical background, you also mentioned in advance both the necessary aspects and the potentially burdensome parts.

Some high-end SoCs used in dashcams already include an NPU, which is not as big as the general-purpose SoCs. If resources are allocated properly, simple recognition processing is certainly possible.
However, since dashcams already use almost all of the SoC’s available resources to perform their primary recording functions, features like this would likely need to be discussed and designed from the very beginning of the product planning stage in order to be realistically implemented.

The custom QR training itself does not seem particularly difficult. Since it is pattern recognition and QR codes only contain a limited number of recognizable features, reading and memorizing them would probably not be very challenging.
However, while it may be possible to include a QR recognition algorithm inside the dashcam, automatically detecting and reading QR codes would require continuously scanning every frame to determine whether a QR code is present or not. Just thinking about it, that would likely require an enormous amount of processing resources.
Otherwise, the user would have to manually activate a QR recognition mode when arriving home to avoid scanning every frame(or maybe one of a few frames) and instruct the dashcam to scan the QR code. But in that case, it would effectively become no different from manually pressing a button to enable or disable parking mode, which would somewhat defeat the purpose.

As for recognizing and comparing the surrounding environment, I believe that would require significantly more system resources.
The system would need to recognize multiple environmental feature points, store them, and continuously compare those stored reference frames against newly captured real-time frames. It may not be impossible technically, but achieving high accuracy would probably make it a very resource-intensive approach and not necessarily the most practical one.
That was also the concern you mentioned yourself.

Still, the idea itself is excellent, so I will continue thinking more deeply about how it could potentially be implemented.

I never needed a CPL on my A229 Pro Telephoto. I don't care for a CPL; it seems to affect the image at nighttime, when I want as much clarity as possible. Putting a custom dashmat on my car has reduced about 98 percent of any windshield/dash glare.

I use a CPL on both my A329TT telephoto cameras (front & rear). Reflections from my own car are not really an issue. However the CPL helps to see through the windows of other cars, which for me makes the telephoto more useful for capturing evidence. Not everyone will want that, but I appreciate having the option to use a CPL on any dashcam.

I use (or have used) CPL filters on all my telephoto cameras: the RTC300, the RTC420, and now the RTC320.
The RTC300 is fitted with the original adhesive telephoto CPL filter, and I’ve never felt the urge to remove it.
I once tried driving the RTC420 without a CPL filter, but I didn't like the resulting image quality; I put the filter back on and haven't wanted to take it off since.
I realize that everyone has different tastes and preferences, so I’m all for having a choice. Everyone should decide for themselves what they need and what they don't.
Right now, I really miss having a telephoto camera on the S1 Infiniti models. Because it's missing, I have to keep an additional dash cam equipped with a telephoto lens on my windshield.

Based on my useless testing, ever since we got STARVIS 2 image sensors CPL Filters are 100% absolutely necessary for every dash cam, especially telephoto cameras because it will let you see other motorist faces, and distracted driving behind their own windshield.
The only exception I can think of is if you have aftermarket widow tint, or OEM heated windshield that produce the STRANGE RAINBOW EFFECT
Before when we only had STARVIS 1 image sensors CPL Filters made image quality suffer at night time.
One of the best things we got with STARVIS 2 is almost no impact on night time image quality.
We discovered this with A119 Mini 2 (IMX675), ask Robert for confirmation.

I also used a telephoto camera with a CPL. For me, it reduced some reflections, and as Tony and Chuck already mentioned, it will allow you to see into the cabin of cars.

A telephoto camera should support a CPL to get the best possible result.
 
I visited a few Southeast Asian countries last week for business, including some I had never been to before. It seemed like most of those countries didn’t have clear regulations on windshield tinting films. Of course, that might be because they are hot countries. Most vehicles had quite dark tinting films applied to the front windshield as well as the side and rear windows. During my visit, I conducted sample installation work on a few vehicles. While I initially explained the benefits of the CPL filter and recommended installing it since it comes as a standard component of Vueroid S1 4K, I ended up advising against using the CPL filter after inspecting the footage from the test drive. CPL filters indeed reduce light reflection, but it is also true that they lower sensitivity significantly.

As @lufa6977 mentioned, it is expected to greatly reduce the advantages of a telephoto camera during night driving. If capturing license plates is truly the primary purpose of a telephoto camera, I also still believe a CPL filter is not appropriate.

However, what @TonyM mentioned was something I learned for the first time. I wasn't aware of the fact that it allows you to see inside other target vehicles better. That’s very interesting. Should I understand this as the CPL filter on the camera installed in my own vehicle, reducing the glass reflection of the opposing/target vehicle?

I don't think the shared video is a fair comparison. A video shot in a shaded area and a video shot completely outdoors are bound to show different results. Also, looking at the top video when the vehicle enters the outside, sunlight is shining obliquely from the front right. You can see the sunlight hitting the passenger's face. This indicates that light is entering the interior. Even looking at the dashboard, a certain amount of light is entering due to the sunlight. However, the interior remains dark.

In the bottom video, there are no shadows around the vehicle at all. The sunlight is coming down almost at a right angle, so only the driver's hands are receiving sunlight. Even if sunlight reflects, it is an environment where it is difficult to illuminate the interior.

I also suspect whether the two compared vehicles have front tinting applied or not. At the end of the bottom video, there is a side view of a vehicle turning left in front of the McDonald's sign. It has no tinting at all, so the rear of the vehicle is clearly visible through both side windows. Even though it is the same location and exposed to the same sunlight environment, the interior visibility of the subject vehicle and the left-turning vehicle looks completely different at different distances. I have my doubts about whether the bottom vehicle is tinted.

Still, the point about being able to see inside opposing vehicles better remains interesting. I just checked various aspects through AI, and it explains that it really is effective to see through the window shield of the other vehicles.

It's not that I'm trying to avoid applying CPL filters. Currently, offering CPL as an option using a common design wouldn't be difficult. However, due to my personality, I just don't like releasing something to the market merely to fill a lineup when I haven't convinced myself yet. 😎

regulations on windshield tinting films
In USA aftermarket window tint of the FRONT windshield is illegal in pretty much every state.
However, I occasionally see entire front windshields tinted.
 
Here's a typical scenario where a telephoto shows more detail than the primary dashcam within the interior of an oncoming vehicle.

Looking at a 100% crop from both cameras, in the 4K wide angle we can see the driver is probably holding a phone whilst driving, but that could be a glove on the dashboard, and it could be a drink carton rather than a phone. The longer focal length of the telephoto provides a clearer view - better evidence if it was required in an incident. Both cameras have a CPL on and HDR turned off. In this example the sun is behind my car, so the CPL has very little effect.
