V2.0 Firmware for Public Testing

Updated my A329T 3CH. and Downloaded the new VIOFO app for iOS.

Observations.

The new Resolution setting (4K 21:9 +2K 16:9 + 2K 16:9) only shows on the camera, not in the app.

This setting is not implemented properly.
The front cam is proper 21:9 crop, BUT, the Tele and Rear is also 21:9, but the cam is stretching it vertical to be 16:9, so it highly distorts/squishes the picture.
EDIT: Confirmed. I used MKVtoolnix to set the video metadata to aspect ratio of 21:9, and the remuxed 16:9 video is proper 21:9 cropped look.

The cam factory reset to Setup prompts after rebooting after firmware update.

After updating to this v2 firmware (2.0_251016), the Plate Number field is now showing on the recorded footage. (it was not on v1 firmware)

Only was a quick update and short night time drive.

EDIT: This seems to be resolved in v2.0_251027

This is rather useless a setting if implemented this way.
It is not what i had asked for.

The cams are still cropping to 21:9, image is still being lost. Stretching the cropped image is just removing the letterboxing and distorts the image.
The point to having 16:9 on Tele and Rear is to capture the full frame with no cut off. The tele cam most importantly needs full frame field of view.
Having the front wide angle cam cropped to 21:9 is beneficial to remove static dash and excessive sky.

I had asked, a few times i believe, if there is a technological reason as to why each cam can not have its own set ratio setting.
I gather, since each cam does not have its own cpu/encoder etc, the main front cam has a single cpu encoder, and can only encode at one master setting for its inputs.
Encoding each channel with independent settings, might require multiple encoders, or multi threaded processing.
However, VIOFO was able to modify the video metadata to set the other cams ratio to 16:9, but it still is applying the 21:9 crop...so something is messed up with that.

I can tell with my rear cam, it is being cropped in 21:9, as it cuts off my rear wiper, same as when i set it in all cams to 21:9. In the all cams to 16:9, it shows.

EDIT: This seems to be resolved in v2.0_251027

@VIOFO-Support I think this is the biggest issue with A329S
I would love if you could add custom circle radius for geofencing, current 50m radius is just unusable for me.

Viofo indicated here https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/threads/v2-0-firmware-for-public-testing.57014/post-656129 that they are working on making the radius user-adjustable. Not clear yet what the min/max might be, but as I keep harping on that's controlled by the GPS satellite signal precision to some degree. I see online that on average the satellites used by dashcams have at best a 5-10m/16-33 ft precision depending on certain factors. That's actually much less than I need. My home parking situation calls for only an adjustment down to ~30m for PM not being triggered geofencing control. .

Probably the last time Viofo does this maybe ?
Why…?
– Free testing
– Free bug identification
– Free idea/feature generation
– Extended development timeframe

Win win..? The likes of Ubiquiti have been doing this for years….In fact, point out any OS these days that comes to market fully fledged and error free….Not defending the habit or saying I like it, but seems to be the reality of electronic development these days….

What is "this" you refer to? A firmware update? Most if not all Viofo dashcams receive a few FW updates after release. They have already mentioned V2.1 is being worked on.

I personally am very happy with the V2 upgrade and look forward to the V2.1 Think Viofo is doing a great job.
When you install hundreds of these units. You tend to see some challenges. More than the average user would. Viofo will continue to do firmware updates. But I do feel its time for some of their older models to be retired.

I wonder if Viofo might be keeping older models around as an option for those who don't want to (or simply can't) spend a lot of money on the more recent models. Or are you referencing older models with significant performance/functionality issues?

Its time for the a119v3 and a129 series to be retired. Introduce other maybe newer low priced products.
Updated with newer connectors like usb c and get rid of the hk3 harness altogether.

Merely my opinion

Thank you--I almost asked if you would be willing to provide an example, but didn't want to potentially put you in an awkward position.

Like for instance new low priced starvis 1 sensor products.

As far as I know, the A119 V3 is still quite popular.
And not just among newcomers.

Should we keep selling 2010 Toyota Corolla? Or 2010 Toyota Camry? They are still popular.

Like i said just my opinion

@VIOFO-Support

I can't comment on the 329S/T/W as I don't have one, but I do have a general question. Does Viofo intend to create an LTE Module or create a line of Products with LTE 4G or 5G Support to allow Viofo Products Remote connectivity?

From what I've read, the reviews on the 329 series are good, and I think Viofo would benefit from creating such a feature.

People still drive them, because they still work. Used car lots still take and sell them, because they work. Not everyone has the financial standing to buy the best and greatest. So to answer your question, the A119 V3 is old, but any dashcam is better than none. People sometimes need affordable and not top of the line.

I just pulled off footage from an acquaintance's vehicle of an accident where airbags deployed. I told her the camera she got was junk, but installed at her insistence. Was it junk? definitely! But did it capture the accident and show she wasn't at fault when both parties pointed the finger at the other? Yes.

So did the "Junk Camera" serves it's purpose. The image quality was sub par, but ultimately yes. Therefore, the A119V3 is far from junk and still does the trick.

Side Note: https://www.viofo.com/products/a119-v3-with-gps-2k-25601600p-30fps-quad-hd-car-dash-cam

It's 2K... Plenty of Cameras operate at 2K and clearly it must be selling for Viofo to continue listing the A119 V3.

@VIOFO-Support Is it possible to add the ability to power the camera from side usb-c when the dashcam is connected to gps mount ?

As a backup power for when your battery is drained and you really want to record the surroundings when you park.

I always have a charged powerbank in my glove box so I can just connect it to the side usb-c and record in such emergencies.
