2014 DOD LS460W Sony Exmor CMOS, ISO3200, F1.6, WDR, 3DNR, 5x GPS, HUD

At some point we'll see the generic Tiotech version of this one which is known as the GT200W-C. There's also a smaller form factor version in the RS6.

Not quite sure how it hangs together in whether DOD is just a TioTech brand or what - TioTech do show reference to the DOD group.

I think we'll see quite a few cameras using the latest Sony sensor soon - there's a sourcing fair on this month in China so I guess we'll see a few announcements there - a couple have already slipped onto manufacturer websites ;)

I've got a 48 pin NAND clip on the way too so I can start pulling stuff off cameras where we don't know certain specs :)

Nice one thanks - that answers the question about the sensor then :)

I've been through the firmware and it does reference the IMX322LQJ so it's the same sensor as the Panorama X1 and X2. It does appear to be the standard Novatek 96550 firmware otherwise.

Now we just need to see a camera mixing the IMX322 up with an A7 as in theory that should give another performance boost.

Jeez http://www.dod-tec.co are pulling people's pants down for the LS460W - they're charging €279 currently - I only paid £139 I think when it first launched!! For that sort of price you could buy a two channel system with the same sensor.

Hi Folks
Newbie here in dashcam, and have recently taken the plunge and got a LS460W over the weekend. My LS460W have problem focusing on the car number plate and road signs properly like some have mentioned here, especially on the sides, although I don't really have a problem with windscreen reflection.
I have seen that the firmware upgrade seems to be the path to take to fix some issues, but would like to ask if it really resolve any of the focusing issue? My camera has a firmware of FG1406260EN08 E00 ECA00A01, is the new firmware compatible with this camera (noticed that the last 4 characters are "EN11" for others, while mine is "EN08")? My dealer do not want me to upgrade any firmware and have said that the camera should not need any firmware upgrades though...
Thanks alot

To be honest the focus issues are usually a physical fault which would need a replacement.

Where did you buy it from? There was supposed to be a new revision recently but whether it was just a software change no-one knows.

If the dealer don't want you to upgrade then they need to replace with a working unit.

As a matter of interest what car is it in?

I bought it from the only official DOD dealer in my country. If it is a physical fault, I would ask for a cash back or replacement, coz frankly it is pretty useless if I can't see the number plate of other cars. The dealer have requested me not to upgrade any firmware in case I brick the camera, and have asked to pass him a video sample for him to talk to DOD. I hope he comes back with good news on it...

The LS460W is currently inside my Suzuki SX4 hatchback.

To be honest I had the exact same issue when these first launched and the dealer said they sent the videos to DOD and nothing ever happened.

If reflections aren't causing your problem a CPL won't be any help either. Do you have any screenshots or sample video that you could upload please?

Cameras like the Mini 0805 and 0806 seem to produce just as good video quality and also have higher resolution options available.

The problem is that dashcams are not prevalent in my country, hence Mini 0805 and 0806 are not readily available.
I have passed my video to the dealer, they came back and said that my camera is perfectly fine and videos are OK. They say they will pass the video to DOD tomorrow and hope to get their reply on it.

Would like to ask on some feedback from those who have better experience than I do. I have attached some sample pictures here taken from my LS460W, do you think it is blurry or am I blind? I can't see any of the car plate numbers in front of me, neither are the side bunting (in yellow on the right). Do you think it is not clear, or "it is like that for all cameras"?
Thanks a lot!

Ah ok you do have a reflection of a grille there that causes the LS460W some right troubles:

1.jpg

A CPL might help a bit with that as you've got the noise reduction getting confused by the small grille reflections - I had exactly the same problem.

The focus could be slightly better and another unit may be better than this but I found that that grille reflection could cause issues even when I had the CPL fitted - let me try and dig out one of my pics.

There's only so much you can do at 1920x1080 - this is one of the places the cameras that do 2560x1080 have a real advantage as they've got more pixels covering the same area.

Here we go - this was mine without a CPL - you can see the grille causes all sorts of problems and it's why I've got a dashmat fitted at the moment:
5oz3gw.jpg

CPLs aren't without their drawbacks though in that they'll sometimes cause smearing as they're making the sensor work harder.

There are some screenshots of the difference I had here - notice the grille reflections are massively reduced with the CPL:

https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/threads/hoya-hd-cpl-filter-for-dod-ls460w.6770/

That was with my second LS460W I think which had better focus than the first picture.

Thanks a lot reverend for the feedback. So my camera is indeed working fine just like what the dealer said, its just that the camera could do with slightly better focus. Do you think the camera should be returned?
I am considering to retrofit a CPL filter to improve the picture/video quality, hope to get something as clear as your sample videos...
Thank you!

CPL filter removes reflections, they don't perform miracles though, they can soften the focus also
