Has anybody found a multiple-camera system that is affordable and renders 1080 clips?

In the absence of that, I am thinking about maybe a Raspberry Pi with 4 1080 USB webcams....

the quad 1080p solutions are currently selling for over 1k, really aimed ta the professional/transport market

Commercial affordable ( approx 1000-1500$ ) 4 x 1080p remote lens all-in-one systems have very low bit-rate.

You could always install a home security DVR into a vehicle, but, you'd have no option to lock important files, no g-sensor and no GPS. There'd probably be other oddities too. The cameras may or may not be discreet and who knows how the quality will be for something designed to record in a static location vs moving scenes in a vehicle. You could, however, install a pretty high capacity HDD in one of those and depending on the model, they are not unreasonbly expensive.

If used for parking mode then most important question is how to power the system and how to recharge battery. Depends on how many hours per day to drive in order to charge car battery for remaining parking recording time. One option is to install solar panels which of corse all comes to personal situation ( car make, parking underground or in open air etc.)

If you have enough money to throw at something like this, you could get a deep cycle leisure battery (a bit like a car battery, but, you can drain it much lower without damaging it) and wire it in as a split charging system. This page details it quite nicely: http://www.12voltplanet.co.uk/split-charging.html

Might be out of your price range but we have a 1080p 4 channel system. Like jokiin said, it's aimed at the commercial trucking market, but we have adapted them to other uses...

Heh, I like how the name of their cameras are DPT-CYA-4000A and DPT-CYA-4000C.
(CYA being a common shorthand for "Cover Your A**")

Exactamundo snacksthecat! ;)

Of course, it could also be the acronym for Cover Your Assets..

Or See You Around, if you are hoping to have other parts of your rust bucket repaired on someone else expense :D
