We're back again with the latest from 70mai, the A510. Thank you to 70mai for giving me the opportunity once again to test-drive their latest dashcam solution. For the uninitiated, this dashcam utilises the tried and true Sony Starvis 2 IMX675 sensor with F1.8 aperture, and the GalaxyCore GC2053 (RC11) with F2.0 aperture sensor, in a more traditional wedge form factor. Also back is 70mai's proprietary NightOwl Vision and MaiColor Vivid+ Solution image processing, giving it a contrast-heavy and pleasing feel to the footage (IMO anyways). We have 60fps recording as well (albeit only in 1080p), and GPS is back in play. The elephant in the room is the inclusion of a 500mAh Lithium-ion battery rather than a supercapacitor, but more on that later in the full review.

Turning to the box contents, we are once again greeted by the black svelte packaging, a favourite of mine. Contained within the box is the front and rear dashcams (with respective USB-C wiring), pry tool, dashcam mounts and associated electrostatic mounting stickers (with spares of each). Rounding out the package is the car charger and associated paperwork, but no included cleaning cloth this time. I also received a 70mai-branded 64GB microSD memory card, and their Midrive UP03 and Midrive UP05 (4G LTE, woo-hoo!) hardwire kits.

First impressions of the A510 front unit are solid. It has a hefty build, but one that conveys a feeling of confidence as there is no creaking felt, even with the rear camera unit. There is a 2-inch IPS screen with a sharp 300PPI resolution, but I would imagine an OLED screen in future offerings shouldn't be that hard to pull off. The front lens is rotatable through 90 degrees, with the rear being a full 360 degrees - more than enough to adjust the camera to capture the desired action through the windscreens. No touchscreen is present here, but the physical buttons are tactile and give good feedback without any rattling - overall, another 70mai camera with fantastic build quality.

Installation of the A510 is a painless experience. All said and done, using the included electromagnetic stickers, I had installed and positioned the cameras with in-app live-view checking, within five minutes (associated tucking away of wiring took some further time though). I should also mention that ADAS features are on board with lane departure alert, front vehicle start alert and forward collision alert. Included firmware was on v1.0.40ww with a build date of April 2024 - will take the A510 for a spin in the coming days to see how the whole package performs.

Performed the usual benchmarks with the included 70mai branded 64GB microSD memory card they sent over. Pretty decent speeds as per the case with the bigger capacity 128GB card, I don't believe any users will be left wanting here.

Some photos below showing power testing for the 70mai A510, running through the included cigarette lighter adapter. Much the same as the S500 here when running in two-channel mode (2.5K front and 1080p rear), with power consumption hovering around the ~5W mark. Temperatures are fairly reasonable too.

Also performed temperature testing with the A510's display running continuously for an hour. There are some heat dissipation ventilation holes on the A510 which I found a little curious as it uses the Starvis 2 IMX675 which is known for not running that hot:

  • Outside air temperature: 14 degrees Celsius
  • Middle of display screen: 46.3 degrees Celsius
  • Top of unit above screen: 42.6 degrees Celsius
