70mai Omni 4K – Unboxing, First Impressions & Testing Europe – IMX678 Rotating Dashcam

Mild confusion about the RS filter...once the filter is applied at the app level, can the video be downloaded to the PC with the RS filter embedded?
The overlay with the RS filter is rendered locally on the phone. The saved file can be transferred to the PC, but no file is saved on the SD card with the RS filter applied. You should be able to upload it to any cloud app you have.
There is no way to apply the filter except for the 70mai App.

I uploaded a video from a drive yesterday.
When leaving the parking lot, I thought, why not let the Omni rotate to the left to see the approaching traffic? There weren't any cars approaching, but something different. Check it out.

The following screenshots are with the latest firmware: 1.3.99ww.

Oncoming traffic can be identified. Not as easy as with others but acceptable.

Stationary LED sign trailer shows the typical HDR effect. Plate can be read.

And 3 more screenshots in full size without any crop.
The colors are nice at night.

Plates going in the same direction as the camera are most often fine. Oncoming will depend on the condition.

Here are some rear camera screenshots at night.

I have the same problem — it sees the rear lights incorrectly, I can't see the license plate, and 70mai told me to send the camera in for warranty... is there no other solution?

Maybe just as a small related comparison

An other thing I noticed;

Due to bigger distance to the windscreen, image-quality is more vulnerable regarding scratches and stuff on the windscreen.
Never noticed it that obvious with other dashcams before.

Both did capture the plate in that shot.
Just what they need to do.
70mai should hopefully be able to improve their image a bit more for better capture.

Is that rain or are these scratches and stone chips on the windshield?

Scratches and stone chips.
That just catched me completely off guard while testing because never noticed that before with other starvis2-dashcams.

For future I`ll buy a new windscreen.
Might be more expensive than the car has in worth but.... it is what it is.

But I don`t think it`s the reason why the Omni is a little bit behind other dashcams at night.

In general I think the quality is not bad.
I think E1 Pro, N4 Pro, A229 Pro and A329/S would be better at night.

But it`s not a huge difference.
I think the Omni is at night better compared to for example Vantrue S1 Pro, A229 Plus, Redtiger F7NT e.g

Daytime-quality is "okay" despite having HDR on.
Have seen it definetely worse.

My windshield isn't the best either.
I haven't noticed a big effect caused by it so far.
Will pay more attention to it.

I'm still hoping for 70mai to improve the night footage even more. It could close the gap.

While it might miss the first place for night time footage , it is worth noting that the Omni has very good 4G features unlike the others.
A small trade off that is worth it if looking at the whole package.

The daytime footage could use a little less aggressive colors to feel more natural.

Over the past few days, I've noticed that the camera doesn't properly overwrite the memory card. After a certain period, a 'format card' message appears on the screen, and the footage starts to stutter or lag.

Aaaa so that is what it is.

I have been failing memory cards in my compatibility BECUZ of this, well one card at least but the one corrently in the camera also asked for a format a few days ago.

Which brand of SD card are you using and how old is it?
Latest update installed?

I am mixing things up, last no go ( please format memory card ) was in the E1 pro with the adata premiere pro card, the card i failed in the X800 was the samsung evo plus
Can not recall what card is in the x800 camera now, but it havve asked for a format a few days ago.

Fully updated of course.

Also not worrying, ATM i have tested 8 memory cards, and only 2 have asked for a format out of the blue, this is quite normal at least when i have run my full collection of memory cards which is like 13 or 14 cards now.

The 70mai app just got an update.
It mentions one new dashcam model and new features that we can expect for the Omni in an upcoming update.

Firmware 1.4.107ww has been released.
It adds features mentioned in the app update above.

I haven't noticed any big differences with the last two firmware updates. Mostly, other small improvements have been made.

The Omni 4k has been running with the UP04 without any issues.
Live view connects very fast and reliable and allows me to turn the front camera or to switch to the rear camera.
The sensitivity of the impact or motion detection can be changed remotely.

Can someone check/confirm if the Wifi hotspot of the camera can be used for Internet gateway or is it just a dedicated hotspot for the connected phone to do settings/downloads/view?

To my knowledge it can't be used. It's only for the connection with your phone.
You need the UP04 or UP05 depending on your region to remotely access it.
