A better AE metering for the A119 V3 and other dashcams.

What horizon level (sky to ground ratio) do you use with your A119 V3?

This was just an assumption since:

Work metering on the example of SG:
And this is how the picture changes with the lens lifted up and tilted strongly
You can do the same test on Viofo

Thanks for your explanation and demonstration. Yeah, pretty much any camera will stop down (electronically in this case since there is a fixed aperture) when exposed to brighter light on most of the frame. This would be the case regardless of whether the AE tables were default or altered unless they were altered to such a degree that the top half of the frame was completely eliminated from the metering.

Check the MOD1.3 custom firmware (based on v1.02).

Since "... and other dashcams" is mentioned here, I will give another example of the fact that manufacturers do not just take some kind of default table and use it in all firmware.
In the B2W topic, I gave a clear example of the fact that a table is thought out in the B2W and the lens installation angle recommended by the manufacturer (horizon level 50/50) is most acceptable for a correct exposure https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/threads/b2w-sample-videos.39551/post-479162
(although at first, out of habit, I installed 30/70 for B2W)

There are several more improvements in this fw. Follow the link above to get more information about it.
4 means the firmware is adding brightness and 0 means the firmware it is not adding any brightness?

enjoy,

What 4 and 0 are you talking about? I don't get it.

In my previous post there is a quote which is going to your post with the metering table. The 0 and 4 values are in your AE table.

One more question:
In your changelog I see this:
2560x1600p30 video mode modified into 2592x1944p30 4:3 (full sensor readout).
As dashcam I see no advantage to have more sky and car hood. More than that I would like to have an 2:35 image like Mini 0806 (with Ambarella chipset) had but I think this is not offered by Novatek.
Based on above modification, can you create 2592x1104p30?

enjoy,
Mtz
