A229 Pro Overheating

I referred to quality. Quality is both resolution and bitrate. Sorry I didn't spell things out for you more clearly.

Your Viofo A229 overheating in Australia when parked is to be expected. I mean 40C summer temperatures, whether or not the sun beats on your vehicle, is going to make the interior 70C or higher at times. Cracking your window may help ventilate the vehicle, but it's still going to be very hot unless all windows are rolled down. Even then, it may not prevent the camera reaching thermal max shutoff.

The thermal shutdown of the Viofo A229 is -20℃ ~ 65℃

You complain about me making a typo on 999 versus 990 and saying controller card when I meant controller....

You were driving 30 minutes, and not parked when Camera overheated. But then your car was parked in an undercover carpark for 8 hours before driving off? Exactly what the heck are you saying. What does Camera overheating on a "Regular Drive" have to do with you being in a car park for 8 hours.

Trying to decipher your gibberish. Let's assume you mean the Camera shut off on after 30 minutes on a 38/40C day during normal driving. Was the Air conditioning turned on? Were the windows cracked? The camera getting proper airflow shouldn't be overheating.

Now the last part....Being parked in a carpark 8 hours? Not sure if you're referring to 8 hours of attempting to use Parking Mode or just felt like Rambling this one off for no reason?
Yeah because if you can't spell it out to consumers properly with the right terminology, then it will confuse them. Don't act like you know certain technologies when you can't even get the terms correct. People who use the incorrect terms are people who pretend that they know about a topic when they don't. A quick Google to brush up on a forgotten term (if one had forgotten), or even learn a thing or two if they didn't know, would alleviate this issue.

I was refering to my car being parked in an undercover carpark, to show that it wasn't operational in parking mode at all. No power being supplied to it, nothing. How thick are you not to understand that?

I then set off driving away in the heat with the air conditioning on in my vehicle, in my afternoon commute from work. The camera half an hour in on these hot days overheats and turns off. It also turns off if I should park somewhere leaving the car running with air conditioning on. No cracked windows, adequate airflow going.

You are out of your depth, and someone has to clear up the mess of misleading people who come here for advice. I will continue to clean up your mess, for the betterment of folks who come here to ask questions and get the best answers our knowledge trust can provide.

Mistakes in typing.......I have built computers and configured computersthem from scratch. But nope, I know nothing what I'm talking about.

I refer you to the earlier post where you rambled about Ram and a MicroSD card both needing a QVL as nonsensical. If you can't see the correlation between a Critical Component needing a list of Approved Vendors, then I suggest you are the one Out of you League.

Manufacturers are the only ones that WILL KNOW FOR CERTAINTY what hardware their products are designed to work with. Otherwise, the consumer is left buying Random sets of Ram or Random MicroSD cards and "Hoping for the Best".

I still don't grasp your statement. Your car was driving 30 minutes and Camera shut off. With a sentence leading into a CarPark for 8 Hours? How do these two correlate?

Not supplied power? Well maybe you didn't hardwire things right or your Battery Voltage was Weak and Voltage Cutoff shut down Camera within those 8 Hours. You offer no proof of either. Just say it "No Power"

Talk about not explaining yourself.....

Now you add in the word "Air Conditioning" was on....and it Shutoff. Now we're getting some variables.....Yes that's bad if Camera is powering off when driving....

However, how do you know it wasn't a faulty unit or heat related? Did others experience these symptoms too while driving?

My Mess?....It's ok bud. Save face it if makes you feel better.

Haha I love seeing you worked up. Because then you make spelling mistakes and start bolding your writing, because you're so angry. I am quite calm here, just quietly picking and responding here to your inaccuracies.

The whole QVL thing was something @lufa6977 pointed out. I never said anything about microSD cards. The whole point I was arguing was for SSD incompatibilies with the A329. I don't care for microSD cards at all.

I am explaining myself very well. I just said in my last reply that I wasn't using parking mode - no power supplied to the dashcam. I.e. it's not hard wired at all. Did you not grasp that? Anyone else would grasp that.

Yes, other users have experience overheating with the A229 Pro, parking mode or not. On these forums and reported in other places such as Reddit. I was the one that first reported it to Viofo and they worked with me on the issue and implemented shutdown warnings in the firmware update that came after.

Save face for what? You can't admit you got it wrong. See, I can admit if I got something wrong. But with your behaviour on the forums, you cannot. I feel sorry for you.

1. Where did you ever say the camera wasn't hardwired in the post? Now you've added TWO NEW statements that weren't mentioned. Guess we're Psychic in Dashcamtalk.

A. Air conditioning was running
B. Camera isn't hardwired

2. No I didn't grasp that. No Power at all.....

A. No power because Camera shut off due to Voltage Cutoff
B. No Power because Camera Overheated?

Wait... No power because it isn't hardwired......

Bolding to make you see inaccuracies. You did mention MicroSD and SSD. I quoted your post.

So if the usb 3.0 port appears to work with other mountable devices such as usb memory sticks and microSD memory card readers, why can't it work with SSDs? Should be one and done deal.

Yes....If these work fine... then why aren't SSD's working properly?

Thus the need for QVL lists on devices that work.....

Have I corrected you sufficiently?

thanks for your feedback! ever heard of Vantrue E1 Pro 4K price same as A119 Mini 2 but quality equals to A229 Pro?
Wondering is it a trust worthy brand for long time using?
I have 6 different models from Vantrue for about 2 or 3 years. All are working strong without issues.

Mate, that's pretty easy.
With the car being parked in a underground car park and the dashcam being powered off, he is trying to say that the dashcam had no sun exposure or heat.
30min later after starting the drive it did shut off.

This statement is important for me.
It reduces the variable that the dashcam was already cooking in the direct sunlight while parked, causing it to already start with a high temperature to begin with.

Actually he said later on his car isn't hardwired. So therefore it had no power.....So parked in a underground garage had zero to do with anything.

So you got it wrong, too.

No I don't.
You got it wrong.
Sun exposure will still increase the temperature of the dashcam even if not powered.
Touch a dark surface or you dashboard in the summer.

Of course, but how does that change anything? He was in a parking garage and dashcam was not powered on.....

Even if it was an uncovered parking garage and sun beat on it all day for 8 hours, I mean the only variable here is it still turned on.

Given it's history of turning off while driving and shutting down, I don't see how this piece of information offers much?

How does it change something?
Very easy.
It means that the starting temp is not at the upper limit because everything has already been heated up by the sun.

In the end this tells me the heat was gained while driving with AC on and not while being stationary parked.

Assuming it was a covered parking garage away from the sun, not powered on, and starting cold, then of course the sun is at fault.

The reverse can also be argued. If the camera was powered down and parked in the 35-45C sun for 8 hours, one might expect the camera wouldn't boot.

Viofo clearly states their Thermal Max 65C.

A better test would be to see if the Camera still overheated with the Windows Down (Normal Drive) or Air conditioning on (Normal Drive). If the Australian sun can still shut down the camera with either or both of these variables, then Viofo is in trouble. Most people living in 38-40C aren't riding hotbox (windows rolled up) or without AC.

So the test should be more realistic in nature with how a person TYPICALLY drives.

I can say this, both my A229 Pro overheat when in 3 channel mode; as long as in two channel mode there are no issues. Maybe my using the dash cams in 3 channel modes at maximum settings for two years have exhausted them and some component is giving up the ghost, albeit slowly. 🙂

I think my path forward, will be the new VUEROID S1 Infinite as a front cam and interior camera. I am not sold on the A329S (for myself) due to expected, but unknown limitations manufactured into the dash cam. Hard to beat the image quality from VIOFO but frankly, I am fed up with collecting various cables. I will leave the A229 Pro installed and only use it with the Telephoto lens.

I 100% agree with the cable change. I had Viofo A129 Duo. Cable changed when I moved to A139. I upgraded then to A139 Pro (same cable).....But now if I go to a Viofo A329 I will need to rip out the cabling and redo wiring from scratch It's a lot of work to remove trim and hardware.

I justify everything by saying my Viofo footage helped with a criminal case and a few insurance claims. So the camera has paid itself off on "Proof" alone.

Have you asked for a replacement?
So they have offered to replace both A229 Pro cameras with new ones however, they said it will not fix the overheating issue. The only "fix" has been to record at 1080 or 2k.

Essentially they are selling a camera that is indeed 4k, but only works in lower to mild temperatures. Amazing.

I asked for a A329 upgrade as it looks like that unit may have better cooling. Of couse, I would pay the price difference if necessary. They told me those cameras will also overheat and shut down.

Lol I've already spoken to them and they implemented some extra measures after my feedback in the firmware last year. No need for support ticket as I was testing for their purposes.
Did you have success with the firmware? They sent a "special firmware" that bricked one of the cameras. I did not install it on the other. One of the firmwares they sent included a logging ability, which showed the camera shutting down due to heat.....

Not really so I gave up, it does display a warning now when it's about to shut down which it didn't before. I think a lot of users have had issues with heat so they've just accepted that
