A229 Pro Overheating

@SafeDriver101 .... how handy are you with tools and taking apart the dashcam? It is a strong chance you have an issue with the thermal paste and the heatsink that sits atop the thermal plate on the processor. The camera is easy to disassemble, you just need to go slow and pay attention. Once open, then replace thermal paste and put heat sink back on. If you choose to do that, let me know. We can DM and I can call you.

You can also add these empty files and see if they get used by the logging software. Files must be empty when put into the root folder of the SDXC card. Files may not work based on what VIOFO has enabled in the logging software.

Viofo sent me a firmware update and logging software. I am still getting overheating issues; outside temperatures are in the mid 70's this week and low humidity. The interior of the vehicle is not exactly 'hot' by any standards.

Send it back under warranty. Loads of overheating concerns if you look up threads here regarding the A229 Pro. Could be bad thermal paste though.

Support is jacking me around with returning / exchanging both of my A229 pro's. I am now having the issue with both of them overheating in separate vehicles. The temperature is only 88deg F here. When it hit's 95+ this camera will be completely useless.

Their solution so far is select 2k or 1080 and don't use 4k.

BS. I paid for a 4k camera to get 4k quality. Not happy at all over this fiasco.

I am trying, yet I am getting the run around.

"we need more files"
"The logs you sent are not enough"
"the engineers are looking at it"
etc, etc.


Are there any issues with the A329 2 channel and overheating?

For all the BS, and cost to have these cameras installed, if the A329 is not having overheating issues, the faulty cameras that I have should be warranted for a set of the 329's.

You live in a tropical climate (Florida). The problem here is that once cameras reach a thermal shutoff (max safe operating temperature), the cameras are programmed to shut off. This shouldn't happen while driving, since the cameras aren't sitting in an enclosed hot car.

The issue arises in parking mode while your car is parked, the cabin heats up from the sun beating, and the camera itself heats up, too.

There are complaints on the A229 Pro overheating due to improper ventilation and design. However, all cameras will shut down once they reach max safe operating temperature. Florida is a tough one as the climate is very warm in the summer. It may help to crack your windows to let out that hot air, while your car sits baking in the sun.

If it is shutting down while driving, then there's clearly a hardware issue taking place (assuming you've installed camera properly).

I've had my A229 Pro shut down while driving (after being in an underground carpark on a hot 40 degrees Celsius day), say 20 minutes after driving around and not stopping. The issues with the A229 Pro definitely contributed to this :/

I agree, somewhat. I had the A129 +duo with no issues in either vehicle. In the summer, with a reflective sunshade up and the camera between the sunshade / window. It never once shut down.
Same with my old street guardian 1080 cameras.

Bottom line, this A229 is a steaming pile of crap so far. I may end up getting the 129's put back in the cars; they are/were FAR more reliable than the A229. The issue is the installation is difficult for the rear camera. Running different wiring again and rewiring the power supply...again.

Such a disappointment....certainly testing my patience.

My unit only ever shutdown when the sun was hitting it directly at nearly 40°C outside while stuck in traffic.
Other than that the A229 Pro has been a very solid unit for me.
I don't understand why the unit you have shutdowns so early.

My issue is when the vehicle is shut off and sitting in a parking lot. Regardless of if I use parking mode or not, the unit shuts down.
Again, this is happening with two separate cameras, purchased about 3 weeks apart.

Both units run incredibly hot, even while driving with the AC on. I have removed the Sandisk 512gb high endurance C10 / V30 card and installed the Viofo SD card they mailed me. No difference as the camera still shuts down.

There is no way that I can be the only individual having this issue. Especially since I have two of these cameras in different vehicles. Additionally, the windshield in both vehicles is tinted with 70 % tint (95% IR heat rejection), 5% on the front sides and 1% on the rear doors/glass. The front windshield also has a 5% eyebrow strip on top of the 70%. The camera is behind the tint with only the lens exposed.

This is a camera heat management issue.
 
Have you asked for a replacement?

The A129 never shut down on me. Then again, it's 1080p and runs a lot cooler. The A229 is 4K and runs a lot hotter with 3 channels (or 2). More data at a higher resolution and bitrate need processed.

Long story short, it appears Viofo didn't properly ventilate and used to much thermal paste, according to an earlier post. I'll take their word for it, because I've seen other complaints of this camera overheating, too.

I personally don't own this model.
 
plan to buy a229 pro, the overheating issue is fixed or should I skip this model?
my place is hot >30 degrees all time

I would wait for the new VIOFO A329S which is soon to release, it is the latest and greatest. The A229 Pro is a great camera but it has a set of its own issues ( like most dash cams ), the A329S is expected to resolve those issues and issues with the A329.

Hmmmm....both of my A229 Pro are now starting to suffer overheating in 3 channel mode. This is demonstrated by the intense heat felt on the LCD screen and that the AM band of the radio in my car will squeal with that 3rd channel plugged in. Remove that 3rd channel and the squeal will go away. This is regardless of what is the 3rd channel removed, I have also tested with different USB cables. Past that aspect, the dash cams are still functional and I have not seem them restart from high heat. I will keep using the A229 Pro while watching reviews for the new A329S and the VUEROID S1 Infinite.
