Any fisheye interior cam add-on for A229 Plus?

Hopefully they will start to see the fisheye lens separately soon. The A229 Plus 2ch is discounted on Amazon at the moment. If it's certain that you can use the fisheye interior camera I might get an A229 now and the camera when they become available.

You could try contacting support on the Viofo website and ask if they will sell you an A229 Plus 3ch with the fisheye lens in place of the normal cabin camera and match the Amazon discount price... I don't know what the answer would be, but people do get customised packages. Otherwise you will be making separate purchases for the 2ch camera and cabin camera, and that is likely to cost more.

I have DM'ed them here but maybe I should try through their website.

The fisheye cabin camera for A229 Ultra will be released individually on our official website this Friday.

It won't work with the A229 Plus?

More spending this Friday 🙂 With the fisheye, I can disable the rear cam for sure when parked for the night. Disabling the rear cam on my A229 Plus saves a lot of battery capacity on my external dedicated dashcam battery.

It's Friday but no sign of it. It's probably going to be at least £69, shame Amazon doesn't have it either as they are usually cheaper. Not sure if it's worth asking Viofo to price match.

There must be a disconnect on info sharing between the viofo rep(s) that post here and the marketing dept. or website team. Can't speak for viofo but I highly doubt they're into the price-matching game.

No sign of it. The Viofo UK website is slightly broken too. The accessories menu has an entry for the A329, but you can't click on it. If you guess the URL it works, but doesn't list that camera.

As I mentioned, the flow of info between the company (marketing, website people) and the @viofo rep here is or at least seems to be limited. This means the viofo rep here isn't gettig the proper info or incomplete info from the company but the rep is stil sharing it here with viofo customers. We then think, he's a rep for viofo so must be telling us the facts. Well, we have seen that is NOT the case.

Ex. Viofo rep says it will take longer to get the Ultra fisheye to work with the A229 Plus. Incorrect info. A tester here shows the Ultra fisheye does work with the A229 Plus. Viofo HQ and its engineers, software developers (the peope who write the firmware) already know this when they were designing it. When they design a new product, these engineers and the design and planning team have already discussed about what other products this new fisheye cam can be used with. Cost-effective across multiple devices (in this case, A229 Ultra, Pro and Plus).

They might not choose to share this info with a viofo rep on a public forum. Or the info shared is incomplete. The viofo rep here only found out the Ultra fisheye can be used in the A229 Plus because someone here tested it.

It "should work". Viofo rep said the Ultra interior cam "should" work with the A229 Plus only to corect themselves that it may take a bit longer to get it to work with the A229 Plus. Only to then find out from someone who tested it here, that it does work. So, again not accurate info is being shared with the viofo rep here from HQ. Obviously. Or HQ said, don't say anything until we tell you to. But the tester here blew the lid off.

The Friday availabliity date on the Viofo website? Things can change. I see that the A229 Ultra is sold out on their site. I'm only speculating, maybe they want to keep some parts for replacement? Total speculation on my part. Maybe there was a delay in shipment? No idea. But the @viofo rep should pay a bit more attention to providing accurate info and check the facts before posting here. It reflects poorly on the company. Can we trust a company spokesperson? We should if info is accurate.

Reply to poster below. so I don't have to start another post. Amazon and other retailers will post discounts, coupons from time to time to entice people to spend. It's a business. There will be other similar opportunities down the road. I bought items on Prime Day. Anything I missed, wait until Black Friday. You might not have Black Friday where you live, I'm not sure but I think there will be other such sales events on Amazon.

For me, the A229 Plus Interior cam will do just fine until this Ultra fisheye becomes available. In the meantime, I can move the interior cam more forward so the 140* FOV can cover more space left to right. Viofo knows my money is coming their way sooner or later assuming I'm still using Viofo and not another brand 🙂 Viofo won't miss me as they already have a large customer base. I will continue with Viofo as long as their products continue to meet my dashcam needs.

The Amazon coupon runs until Wednesday, or until stocks run out. It's the official Viofo shop on Amazon, although it looks kinda neglected. Most of their stuff from the last year isn't on there.

At least with Amazon if I get it and it turns out the fish eye camera isn't available or doesn't work with it, I can return it. UK law has a "fit for purpose" clause and their official rep claiming it means it better be true.

I ran a quick test to verify for myself whether the A229 Ultra 210 degree fisheye interior camera plugs-and-plays with the A229 Plus. It does!

This was a very quickly thrown together test. A couple of days ago, I removed my A229 Plus from my vehicle to install the A229 Ultra [reusing the power and front/rear cables] . The front camera still has its CPL filter installed.

Original A229 Plus Interior Camera [all three cameras]: Front / Rear / Interior [Non-Fisheye]

A229 Plus with A229 Ultra Fisheye Interior Camera [all three cameras]: Front / Rear / Interior [Fisheye].
I blurred some documents on the left side of the fisheye since it was showing more than I wanted.

To get the same image orientation [without rotating the image in the settings], you would need to rotate the fisheye camera 180 degrees which places the camera's USB-C cable connector on the other end of the interior camera. Looking forward from the vehicle's passenger compartment towards the interior camera, the original A229 Pro/Plus interior camera would have the cable connect on the left side. The cable would need to connect on the right side of the fisheye interior camera to get the same image orientation.

Thank you so much rcg530, that's really helpful!

Also the rear and especially the fish eye cameras show the ridiculous amount of sharpening that the Viofo does in software. It would be nice if you could turn that off.

rcg530, it took me a few reads to understand what you were explaining about the Ultra interior fisheye cam when used on the A229 Plus. Since there is only 1 USB connector from interior cam to main unit, I would just flip the Ultra fisheye cam around. I had to play with the A229 Plus interior cam to figure out the correct orientation and placement.

The Viofo app showed the interior cam image was upside down so I just flipped the orientation of the interior cam. Oh, I see the image is now right-side up.

The A229 Ultra will use a fisheye interior cam, it is also possbile can be used on A229 Plus.

I have a Viofo 229 pro + HK4 set up.
Will the A229 Ultra interior wide angle camera work with my dashcam?

VIOFO can correct me but it should work for all A229 models. They’ve stated that many times already. Plus and Pro will work because they both use USB- C connectors. It’s not how you wire it up but what connectors the A229 series uses. All use USB- C.

It won’t work with the A139 series because that series uses coaxial connectors.

Amazing, thank you for taking the time to post photos.
On the box it's literally mentioned compatible with A229 Pro, it's officially supported so even better. I thought it could have worked "unofficially" but I would have been a little bit anxious buying it in case it wouldn't have worked properly but it's officially supported I'm going to get it.
Appreciate your reply

Thank you for confirming.
I don't follow dashcam news on a daily basis so I wasn't aware. I just recently randomly found out about the A229 Ultra and then I saw some footages of the wide angle interior camera which blew me away. I was never interested in installing an interior camera but when I saw how well this one captures the side windows I told myself now I need an interior camera.

And I appreciate the extra details. I see, 229 line used USBC, 139 line uses coaxial and apparently the 329 line also uses coaxial. I'm happy Viofo didn't force us to upgrade to the A229 Ultra to use the wide angle cabin camera, they could have locked the use of the cabin camera exclusively with the A229 Ultra. Really consumer friendly @viofo
