Any more news on the rear plug in camera for 512gw ultra

Just been looking at Halfords web page, they have produce their own front and back dashcam. BUT NO NEXTBASE PLUG IN REAR CAMERA. Perhaps it's invisible and that why we can't see it.

They have yes - after some thorough testing though it emits enough noise to knock out DAB signal on multiple channels, along with a few other things.

With DAB radio becoming more and more popular (and us selling our own DAB adapters) it is very important that we design it in such a way that this doesn't occur.

Thanks for that.

There's a guy on Amazon in the review section saying that his Nextbase DAB adapter is knocked out by his Nextbase Dashcam.

Yes @mclarkie and we can usually resolve this - and steps can be taken to improve this both within the design and afterwards with ferrite cores/positioning.

Will this mean having to purchase another model of camera to overcome the DAB problem or will a firmware update fix the problem? The dab radio in my car sometimes loses its signal, I always assumed the signal was dropping because of the area I was in.

We aren't releasing the Rear Cam with an interference problem.

Dab adaptor hmmm
May have to look at this as love a bit of dab radio in the nismo juke
Tiffany tell me more as if it’s as good as my 512gw I’m interested

It takes many many years to develop a rear view camera that records efficiently and is well enough designed so not to interfer with DAB radios. What no one on this forum realises is that Nextbase competitors only have such highly developed rear view cameras because they started developing them in 1957. So give Nextbase just another fifty years or so before you start moaning. Come on everyone give them a chance.

This is a reply from Elliott of Nextbase just 2 minutes ago.

The 512GW rear cam has not yet been released, we are still awaiting an official release date with Halfords. Once that is set we will let customers on the mailing list know
That makes it sound like it's Halfords who are holding the release up from that wording. Halfords are to have them in 6 weeks before other suppliers presumably a deal made with Halfords being the sole supplier initially.

So is the camera ready for release and it's Halfords holding it up because they wanted to release their own branded product first?

If my information is correct Nextbase first appeared in 1999 and DAB radios has been out since 1995. I would understand if DAB was invented a week ago but it hasn't and is older than Nextbase. We all understand they are under pressure to resolve their problems with the rear camera.
Can't wait to see it in Halfords and on my car. Regards.

if they're looking to solve DAB interference issues the camera may never come out, it can be improved, but solving it completely may not happen, this is a very common complaint with DAB, even more so if it's aftermarket DAB with an amplified on glass antenna

I just bought the Halfords '380 look alike' with the rear view camera and it does not upset my DAB radio at all.
What's more, they actually have the rear camera in stock.
The rear view cam is 'round the wrong way' as in the usual reversing cam mirror image. The software is not good, but all that's another story for elsewhere.

@M8TJT what’s the coverage on the lookalike is like, do you have any videos? Its design appeals to me, however there is a lack of reviews/footage. Hope Halfords don’t eventually discover a “pricing error” by the time reviews come out, and raise the price by 20%.

Hi Tiffany - would you be so kind and add me to the mailing list for the fabled rear dash am please ?
Thanks in advance

Am I right in thinking "Next Base" could, probably, maybe, sometime, perhaps, in the far off future in another time zone, should be releasing a rear view camera for this damned 512 gw dash cam I bought nearly 7 months ago ????? Well could next Base get this so-called Rear view cam on the shop shelfs so I can use my 512 as I intended to when I bought it !!!!!
