Hey everyone. So this camera is more of an action camera, but Gearbest was kind enough to send me one for review, and I am interested in action cameras too.
Usual format is a video review but I did want to mention a few things.
I have NOT personally used a GoPro, of any model. But I have been interested in purchasing either a gopro or a sony action cam but typically the price is what keeps me from taking the plunge. GoPro recently released the GoPro Hero which is a 1080p30, LCD-less action cam to compete with a lot of the cheaper alternatives out there now but I never got around to it.
I originally tested it as a dashcam but there is one fatal flaw as a dashcam, it does not automatically start recording when it powers on, and I could not find any option to enable this (also did not find any firmware). But considering this is obviously targeting potential gopro buyers I can excuse that. it also does not seem to focus far enough to make it very good as a dashcam.
Now as an action cam it seems like a very good value. It comes with a ton of accessories and mounts. And of course it is compatible with gopro accessories.
My main issue I had with it was the WiFi feature does not seem to work for iOS. I asked Gearbest about it and his suggestion was using it on android but I do not have an android device currently. There is also a Hero 2 that has a wrist band LCD that wirelessly receives live video from the cam, but it does not have 1080p60 like this model. Which brings me to this, this cam unlike the GoPro Hero which has 1080p30, has 1296p30 or 1080p30.
I can't directly comment on the video quality beyond resolution though as I do not have any gopro models.
