So I got my rear cam put in finally. I reviewed some footage from a recent road trip last week and was perfectly happy with the way the video looked, until I saw some night footage.

The rear cam was useless at night on the default settings. Sunday or Monday I brightened the rear cam, it was a gloomy evening so it looked good once i reviewed that. The following morning i tweaked the front as well to brighten a little. We finally got sunshine today and just checked again, its way to bright now in the rear and the front is brighter but maybe not too bad.

Questions?
1. Has anyone found a happy medium EV setting for the rear cam?
2. Are there cpl filters for the rear cam? I have some glare.
3. The best view is how i have it set up but i get way too much sky and its overly white on the frame, if I lower the view I get a lot of the rear deck. Which would be better do you think?

I know its personal preference but just looking for some feedback on what others found beneficial for them.

I will include some pics in the next post, give me a few minutes to post.

Thanks

Well there are not much for the rear camera to see out there in the dark woods, but if there have been a little light then my guess are the brake light have triggered the camera to use a less favorable setting for low light.
I will try and get some similar footage with my DC a little later on tonight ( only 8 in the evening here and so still light outside )

I had to head out for lunch when i get back i have some night shots on the road. I added that campground one since it was the first night one in the folder lol. There was a camp trailer behind me though that I figured would illumimate from the reverse light but must not have been enough lighting or like you said the brake light changed the amount

Your pre-adjustment looks pretty normal to me regarding the rear cam - pretty much the same as every rear cam I've used. You have to keep in mind that if there's no light there's nothing to record. This applies to all forms of photography/video.

Regarding the CPL for the rear cam, the DC uses the same CPL for both front and rear cameras.

Yeah makes sense with no light then nothing to see. Didnt think about that when i posted. Anyway here's the other night screencaps.

I'll have to see about buying a cpl for the rear cam.

Fortunately i was hit with a spell of tired and was able to fall asleep at once, and not as it have been the past months where i have not been able to fall asleep before 7 - 8 in the morning, so i just got out of bed at the time where i have been able to fall asleep lately.
Now i am just wondering how many days that is going to last this time.
will try to get some comparative footage tonight instead.
Man i miss those blue skies, been a month since the unusual good summer left us with the usual stuff, which are pretty lackluster.

Summer was rather short up here this year. Didnt fully warm up consisten 80+ until late June, and here we are in late August with fall temps and gloomy weather. Today was the first day in 5 days we got above 70.

Winter is coming ....

I am so ready for these late afternoon showers to let up. Hard to get anything done outside when I get home from work. Montana sounds like it's a little chilly for me, I like it up around 100 f. The wife has the house set to 74, I am under three blankets and one is electric when I am trying to sleep.

just hold off on that for the moment, there will be a revised one available soon
Just wondering, will this new CPL work for the front too? The reason I ask is with mine I can see the border of my CPL filter in the corner. Here is a screenshot of it:

yes, will get you a revised one once they're available, the one you have now will work on the rear no problem
