Fake bricked DVR-027

Got this on eBay and it was bricked out of the box. Turns on fine, picture displays on the screen for about 10 seconds, then sometimes goes to a green screen and sometimes goes to a combination of snow and lines (pic below) screen. Anyone have a fix or a firmware flash for these? Can't make it any worse than it already is so I will try anything. I purchased this about a year ago, before I found this awesome forum...I would have known the differences between fakes and real deals.

looks like a hardware problem, I don't think reflashing would help you at all

Had this with a faulty BATTERY. Change for an BL-5C Nokia battery.

Thanks for the advice.....I get the same result if I take the battery out and power it using only the USB port. Do these need a battery to operate properly?
