My sons have just bought me a Nextbase 312GW, 3 days ago an early fathers day present as I am off to France on Wednesday. I have updated the latest firmware (NBDVR312GWB-R04.4)
Been using it for 2 days now but the GPS symbol just flashes on & off all the time as if it can't find the satellites. Also, the MPH isn't showing, but I assume it's because there is no GPS.
It's recording fine and picture quality is great. Can anyone help, please?

Hello @Doosan

The GPS receiver is located inside the mount.

Can you try holding the camera connected to the mount outside the car? Does it connect then?

Hello Tiffany, thanks for your quick response. I have done that when I first started setting up the camera before fitting it into the car and concealing the wiring. I have spoken to one of your colleagues this morning on the telephone and asked me the same question and concluded that the GPS is faulty. Because of the urgency of going to France on Wednesday, he has decided to post out another part. Hopefully, it will arrive tomorrow. If that doesn't work he suggested I take it back to Halfords and exchange it. I shall see what happen and report back on here. Thanks for your time.

Thank you for calling - things do get resolved super quick that way.

It’ll be sorted before Wednesday either way, hope you have a nice trip.

Hello Tiffany, I just want to update you on how I have progressed with this problem. I tried the new GPS housing that I received this morning and as you know that didn't work. So after talking to you on the telephone and telling me to return the unit to Halfords, I picked up a new one and this one works fine. I just want to say a big thank you to you and your colleagues for all your help resolving this problem. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending NextBase as a brilliant company to deal with. Thank you.

Brilliant - just in time for your holiday, thanks for letting me know.

You're welcome, sorry yours didn't work out of the box :(.

Just got off the phone with Nextbase support. Have a 312gw with GPS that doesn't work .Been sent a replacement windscreen mount. Still doesn't work. Have been told that my car must have a heat reflective coating on windscreen that's blocking it. Incredible a Ford Focus MK3.5 Zetec (no extras, nothing plugged in to the car that ford didn't put on it) one of the most common cars you will see on road has a specialist windscreen apparently. I was then told that it does work on Ford Focus cars they have in the car park. So is it the windscreen or not. Amazing how a mobile phone gps can work but not the dash cam. I once managed to get a GPS lock with it hanging it out of the window. It stayed locked when I attached it and when I came back to the cars hours later to drive home. However, when you review the footage it has the car driving over fields etc. Regret buying the product and paying for the hard wiring kit and all the accessories. Looks like I am not the only one

Hi @Dpm123

The 312GW works when outside of the vehicle, is that correct? There are lots of threads in reference to heat reflective windscreens hampering GPS signals, I recommend contacting the manufacturer to confirm if this is the case.

You maybe able to place it far up the windscreen, as close to the top as possible and the signal may reappear.

The only other thing that can hamper the signal is EMC interference, do you have any adaptors/phone chargers plugged into the car?

You should be able to return the product if you're unhappy with it when was it purchased?

The car doesn't have a heat reflective screen, as I discussed with the call handler. Besides, if it did have you would likely have 100's of these devices coming back to you given the model of the car, and the call handler said they had similar cars in the car park where this was working.

Anyway, John Lewis sent me another camera and hey presto in the same car it works. So after 2 GPS mounts and 1 new camera I finally have something that works. I am now glad that I went to John Lewis and got the 2yr guarantee rather than the standard 1yr from Halfords.

The only difference between the cameras now is the first one has the latest firmware on 6.9, and the new one has 6.1 (like the original had). However, I cant see this being a firmware issue. Unfortunately I cant test this theory as I cant see any instructions on your site on how to get access to older firmware and/or rollback an upgrade. I would be relunctant to try and upgrade the new camera, as I finally have something that works.

I have updated my 312GW through the NEXTBASE Replay 3, which is a free video editing suite. There is an UPDATE DASH CAM button on the top line. Hope this helps.

Hi guys,

I've just bought a second hand 312GW, and cannot get the GPS to work. I have followed the online Nextbase instructions including updating the firmware, testing it outside of the car in it's mount, formatting the SD card... no luck!

Two questions I have then...

1. I have downloaded the latest firmware, but the file name is ambiguous:
When I check the system info my camera reads:
NBDVR312GWA-R06.4
The latest firmware is:
NBDVR312GW iN-CAR CAM Firmware Release R6.4 Ver. B R06.9 including Instructions
Is this right?! They both say R06.4, but also R06.9! Seems like a clearer sub-denomination would be handy here!

2. The mount that was provided with my 312GW does not have "GPS" printed on it - and I can see most that are being sold now do have (See below). Mine is just blank.
Have I been sold a dodgy mount? Perhaps it is an old version from the 212 or even 112?

Thanks for any help offered, it is much appreciated. I am preparing to demand a refund for this camera and buy a new one... but maybe I have missed something obvious!?

Perhaps I should also mention that within the Replay 3 software, when I try to "Update Dash Cam" I am faced with this message:

"Unable to find Dash Cam, please connect the Dash Cam to your PC with the USB lead provided."

This is baffling, as the camera in connected, and I am fully able to access all the files that are stored on the SD card and play them in Replay 3.

The GPS receiver is located inside the mount. If your mount doesn't say GPS you have no receiver. You need a new mount, with the right part. Where did you buy it from?

Whether you can update depends on what version your on currently, the ability to update this way is recent. You're on the latest R6.4, you have to put it in update mode to allow any update to take place.

Right ok, thanks for your answer.

Looks like I have been sold a 'frankenstein' of Nextbase parts from an eBay seller. I will look at returning it now for a refund and will buy a new one instead!

Same here regarding the dashcam 312. My GPS also doesnt work. Tried updating firmware and still unresolved

Bought two suction mounts for my 522gw and 622gw and used the mag mount which came with them but have had the problem of no GPS.
After watching a video of how to use mount I noticed that the mount that comes with the cam has GPS marked on them but the ones that came with the suction mount have not so I am guessing switching them over will sort out problem about no GPS stamp on saved videos.
