Hardwire kit for A810

Ok I figured it out, R13 and R17 are the voltage divider, marked 02D and 01C, 102k/10k ohms, it is read by the microcontroller on pin 4, with 11.8V input, it reads below 1.054V and it switch off the input.

If you want a higher cutoff voltage, you can swap the 102k for a higher value (or add a resistor in series) or swap the 10k for a lower one (alternatively another resistor in parallel)

Edit: did some math, you can get about 12.2V if you put 220k in parallel with the 10k resistor or 180k for 12.4V

Edit 2: if you have 5.6k on hand, you can add it in series with the 102k to get 12.4V and 4.7k in series for 12.3V.

Edit 3: I've decided to order 0603 0.5% SMD resistors to swap out the 10k one, will do the mod for my brother as well.

R17 value
9.42k = ~12.5V
9.53k = ~12.4V (confirmed)
9.65k = ~12.3V (hard to find value)
9.76k = ~12.1V
10k = 11.8V (stock)
Hi i have UP02 module for a500s-1. I wanna change cut off voltage to 12.1 volt. This board has R17 too. Changing R17 to 9.76k, is it enough? How do we calculate this resistor values? I found the same solution on 4PDA for UP02, he say 470 kohm resistor parallely soldered to R17 and cut-off value is 11,78 volt. On UP02, R13 is "01D" too so i think calculated resistor values is completly different than UP02. I attached image of board. Do u have any idea? Thanks.

Yeesh, 11.8v would kill my AGM in no time. I'd want something like 12.8v

You need to figure out the stock voltage divider output then you can change the resistors to obtain the desired input voltage

You can play with this calculator

Assuming 11.6V stock, resulting output voltage of 1.0545V, you need 210k in parallel to 100k (R12 not R17) to get 10k/68k for 12.1V input

I have the UP03 and 70mai A810. I can confirm there is no selectable voltage anywhere on the unit. It shuts off at 11.8 volts instantly.



I can also confirm that the Viofo hardwire cables would not support parking mode. Very interesting as Viofo USB C cable works fine for a Red Tiger dash cam putting it in and out of parking mode.

The Vantrue VP03 cable works and has a 12Volt shut off switch. confirmed on my bench. Same hardwire cable that is used for N4Pro.
So the Vanture VP03 works with the 70mai a8100? this has a cutoff of 12V i thought it was 11.6V ?
 
I did some research on the Viofo HK3-C/HK4, as per this post


Viofo/Red Tiger use pin CC (A5/B5) to carry the 5V ACC signal whereas 70mai/Vantrue uses SBU (A8/B8) pin

Also, it seems like the Viofo HK is a little janky, from my reading, it appears to use a cheaper n-ch mosfet to switch off the output GND and disable the DC-DC converter, and you can have weird voltage 9V on the VCC and 6V on the ACC output lines, I would be wary of plugging it in another brand dashcam in case the dashcam.is being grounded elsewhere, it could fry it.

So the vantrue hardwire kit is compatible with the 70mai? if so which model has the highest cut off voltage ?

Are you sure that in UP02 divider is on R17 and R12? And 01C and 103 is 10k/100k? Is not the same 01C=103=10k?
 
I have powerbank cellink and I will disable cutoff voltage, how can I do it on Up04, remove resistor? But which?
 
Hi, the protection voltage in UP03 is 11.6 Volts.

Wrote the original post before the A810 arrived. Do see in the manual where the cutoff voltage is 11.8V.

Also, what is the recommended fuse rating to use for the UP03 kit? I'm planning on using fuse taps, but I see the kit itself does not come with any.

11.8, 3-5A is plently, this thing draw less than 2A

Alright, thanks. Also, I was reading your post on modding the kit and I think I found an error:

Using that voltage divider calculator after calculating parallel resistance gives a voltage of 12.293 with the 220k. 12.4V for 180k seems to be correct.
 
I've tried to use a 'VANTRUE USB-C OBD Hardwire Kit 3 Level with Display' with my 810. Nice kit with a voltage display and three selectable cut-off voltages. Whilst it powers on it doesn't activate the parking features. I've now bought a UP03 and will solder a resistor as featured already previously.
 
Probably using CC vs SBU pins, IIRC the Vantrue should be using the same pins as 70mai for parking detection, it may also be just wired on single side of the connector, you can try to flip it 180 degree to test or rewire the connector.

@Daijoubu, yes I bought the Vantrue on the basis that it would be pin compatible. I tried reversing the plug but in vain. The other reason I bought it is that I have a BMW, therefore, no easily accessible fuse box. This Venture has an OBD plug so would have been ideal. I'll now have to install the UP03 to the rear fuse box now.
 
Ok so I performed the mod, soldering 0603 was a little tricky, 9.53k is just perfect, cutoff voltage at 12.4V
Basicaly as soon as the MCU reads below 1.054V, it cuts off the input
Thank you for sharing your findings, great job! I purchased a 9.53k panasonic resistor (part: ERA-3AEB9531V) and replaced R17 too. I tested with my bench power supply and the cut-out voltage is 12.392 volts which would leave close to 75% charge on the battery. I am still wondering why would they sell that adapter with a cut-out voltage (11.8V) that would fully drain and damage the car battery.

Replacing that resistor is not an easy task beacuse of its size. I was able to do it only because I have a soldering heat gun and a digital microscope. Someone with 20/20 vision may do it without the microscope.

Hi, I’m new on the forum, and I just bought 70mai UP02 hardware kit, and A200 dashcam, nothing installed yet.

Before ordering, I asked 70mai support if I could use UP04 kit, following the wonderful idea of lisabon_Q3, to set the protection voltage higher (e.g. 12.2 volts).
70mai answered to buy UP02 kit for connector type reason, and confirmed the 11.8 Volts protection voltage.

I can’t figure out if 11.8 volts would kill the battery, OR very surely or possibly (which one ?...) prevent from starting engine.
Another issue is that micro-USB cable of UP02 doesn’t fit anymore A200 dashcam because I was delivered with a new version of cam that has USB-C port.

Having no rickypr’s tools and other’s talents here, I should :
  • either buy a micro-USB to USB-C adaptor for the UP02 kit, and try,
  • return UP02 and buy UP03, and try,
  • try UP04 for voltage setting use, which I would largely prefer.

If UP04 works for A810, do you think that it would work with A200 (firmware v1.1.48ww.2023.11.13) ?
Or else A810 has features absent from A200, that would prevent UP04 to work (I would not use 4G of course).

In parallel, I will try to ask 70mai’s support again.

Might be useful for others, some answers to my own questions, from 70mai support :
- 0nly models A510, A810, Omni support a 4G hardware kit (UP04).
- Using the 4G hardware kit, you can choose a suitable value to protect the car battery (11.8V-12.6V).
- A200 dashcam connection type has changed from micro-USB to USB-C.
 
Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some technical advice on a hardware kit "Frankenstein" project. I currently have a 70mai A800S (Micro-USB) powered by the UP02 kit. I'm highly motivated to upgrade to the UP06 Adjustable Hardwire Kit because of its physical switch for Low Voltage Protection. Being able to set it to 12.4V is a huge win for my battery health compared to the fixed 11.4V on the UP02. Both kits output 5V/2.4A, but the UP06 ends in USB-C while the A800S needs Micro-USB.
I’m considering two ways to "swap" the connectors and wanted to get your take. I want to open both the UP02 and UP06 and solder the Micro-USB cable from the UP02 directly onto the UP06 board. Alternatively, I could cut the output cables a few inches above the modules and splice the UP02 tail onto the UP06 output.

Since the UP06 is quite new and there aren't many teardowns yet, I’d love your expert opinion on the following:
1). Most 70mai kits (like the UP02) use a simple 5V high/low signal on the 3rd wire to trigger parking mode. Do you think 70mai changed this to a digital handshake for the UP06 (since it targets newer cams), or is it likely still just a basic voltage trigger?
2). If I were to cut the USB-C cable and splice/solder a Micro-USB cable (connecting VCC, GND, and the "Signal"), is there any technical reason the A800S wouldn't recognize the transition?
3). Based on the UP02/03 architecture, do you expect the UP06 output to be a standard 3-wire (Red/Black/Yellow) inside?

I realize I'd be the "guinea pig" for this, but before I buy the UP06 and potentially brick it, I wanted to see if anyone sees a "smoking gun" why this wouldn't work.
