Ireland, Dublin drivers random obv's & peeves #18

that last bit of traffic reminds me of when i tried to evacuate for hurricane Ike in 2008. traffic was insane. people were actually behaving themselves very well, all things considered. everyone collectively decided to turn the outbound section of US highway 290 (2 lanes westound, with paved shoulder on each side, wide grass median, no curbs) into SIX outbound lanes - the 2 normal ones, the 2 shoulders, plus the grass on each side of the shoulder. even still, traffic was slow as molasses.

after about 8 hours of sitting in that, i was at 1/4 tank of gas, and didn't have enough fuel in the tanks on my trailer to make it the rest of the way to austin, so i turned around and headed back home.

it took me 30 minutes to get home.:mad::mad:

and then Ike turned east at the last minute, and went more into Louisiana than Texas, so Houston didn't really get that much damage. just fences and trees/branches. but we learned from it and built a better contraflow system for mass evacuations in the future.
