Koonlung K1S Review

WILL TRY IT
mount front cam inside rain sensor housing for merz

thanks niko, with your proof of concept idea
maybe it will work, and be More Stealthy,
had not thought of it until now.

i plan to take apart the cams housing 4 tiny screws and only mount the circuit board and lens
inside the Rain Sensor Housing, its mostly air inside.

Yes, need to mount without housing.
After your work is finished, you may share with us whole project step by step in DIY Projects section.

@niko is the king of DashCam DIY :)

I wouldn't say a king, ... maybe just a "small prince" :) :) :). There are many enthusiasts out here ( and especially in Russia ) who can do as good or even better DIY as I do. They just maybe don't have time to post everything.

Dear Dash Cam Talk

regarding my install pulling system and starting over.
thought i only had to do was spray paint the housing medium gray

Thanks To Niko, its all coming out and back to the drawing board

will take photos on each step and post them
hopefully in about a week

got the dogs eyes pulled and drilled out so far on cute dog
where the lens is going to go,
and got his head opened up on the back

Hmm I am just wondering how much heat does the rear cam generate, and will stuffing it inside the toy dog's head trap the heat and cause potential early failure?

Dog has ears for heat disipation ;)

Dogs use their tongue for heat dissipation, not ears :D
Yes, normal dogs, but that is a special dog and I dont see any tongue there ;)

I am afraid that the dogcam setup will create shaking videos. :(

But now I just remembered my 3 years old HatCam, one of my greatest inventions because I can easy record without hands and I have a stealth setup, not looking like an alien. ;)

Videos like this were recorded with this HatCam and 808 #26 and on the car was mounted an 808 #18:

enjoy,
Mtz

Which is why I suspect it will have heat trapping issue :p

"think it will run cooler"

remounting the remote lens outside the housing

the enclosed BLACK CASE is NOT VENTED
so its should be OK

Current System is Peel and Stick
not a Suctions Cup setup

Maybe is better to find a way to make your Merz mirror black. If you will buy another camera it will be black.
Or maybe you can put some gray tape over the camera lens.

enjoy,
Mtz

Color Matching Cam to the Mirror is no longer an options

WORKING ANOTHER PROJECT IDEA
stay tuned

K1S Inside Camera Housing

Preview 4 Photos of Actual Size of Circuit Board and the Guts inside

Project is " on "

the idea of installing Cam 1 in Mercedes Rain Sensor Housing
appears to fit in a very small space inside 3/8" wide
1/2" hole to front of housing so lens can protrude 1/4" out

Hi Eric,

I just installed the K1S in my car today. I was running a Mini 0801 before. I love having the rear view now.
I'm glad you have taken apart the camera modules, I was planning to do the same in an effort to see if I could improve the audio/mic input. I can't tell from your pictures where the microphone is located. Can you identify it and perhaps provide a closeup of the mic?

Thanks,
Mike

Any audio improvement would be good. I don't understand how this thing went into production with such terrible audio/mic pickup.

K1S Sound Audio / more info
at Very Top Housing See Pin Hole Opening.
This is where the mic is located Directly inside
Look at top there is about 1/8" black round device, see the pin-hole on housing for reference
that is the mic, just in front
I Took Off The Housing and Tested the Sound Thinking the Pinhole was the reason and just make it bigger hole.
NOPE! made no difference, dont try make hole bigger for bigger sound not going to happen.
Also I hate To Admit, but when i only touched the Mic inside gently, to check the solder
it Snapped Off right at the leads. Brittle, its very sensitive to movement.
My Sound was Low, Now Its Not There.

you can only take that courage so far

they haven't been able to resolve the audio in firmware so I can only guess that it is hardware related and possibly a mismatch, wrong mic for the job most likely, not sure what audio chipset they use as it's not they kind of thing they generally advertise but they've made an incorrect choice there somewhere
