Reviewing and Testing the new Vantrue E1 Pro Dashcam

When people are purchasing these items some variables should be taken into account. It’s not much different than having only 3 buttons instead of 4, so it is more difficult to adjust the settings on the unit itself. Or the USB cord being attached to the cigar plug rather than two separate parts. Or not having a parking mode timer. It would be nice to set it to one hour duration and have it turn off in the software. These are all factors when comparing dash cams. Like I said, I do think it seems like a quality unit but everything has its pros and cons. Maybe @Jeff_Vantrue Vantrue could add a parking timer in the firmware update? That should be possible, no?
Thank you for the suggestion! I’ll pass this idea along to our R&D team for consideration.
In the meantime, before we decide whether to add this feature through a firmware update, you can still achieve a similar result by using Vantrue’s hardwire kit. https://www.amazon.com/gp/B0B7LRLL14 This hardwire kit includes a timer, allowing you to set the parking mode duration directly on the kit itself.

I for one prefer to use a timer limit on duration of parking guard mode.

I've been thinking about the frame duplication issue that seems to lead to skipping when viewing the video files from the E1 Pro. While I'm pretty certain that Jeff and the Vantrue team will resolve this shortly with a firmware update, it's hardly a deciding factor for a purchase. If you are watching your video, you'll certainly see it, but this is different than watching things on television (where frame repeat/skips would clearly annoy me).

The frame duplication issue that I am seeing is very mild and doesn't impact the quality of the video capture at all. With or without the skip, I can still identify a vehicle and I can still read plates - these are the key issues for me. Given a situation where having the video is critical such as after an accident or understanding which car whacked mine in the parking lot, I'm going to spend time looking at things frame by frame - this detailed level of inspection is unaffected by a duplicate frame here and there.
I recently used the E1 Pro to document our road trips on a family holiday. The 4K video with CPL on a bright sunny day looks great, but it would have been better without the duplicate frames.

However, for the most part I agree with you that the occasional duplicate is not a big issue when using the dashcam for its primary purpose of recording evidence before or after an incident.

Power consumption of this single channel camera is listed in the user's manual as a mere 3.5w, likely even less in parking mode with either reduced resolution or reduced frame rate. Early measurements confirm this power consumption figure. I need to do more extensive power measurements, but with this tiny amount of power draw, I expect my LTO parking battery will easily provide north of 80 hours of record time on a full charge.
How long does the camera hold internal data? I mean, with the car turned off, how long does the internal battery hold the info, like date and time, before losing everything for lack of power

It can typically be retained for about 1–2 months after the car is turned off. But even if the time is lost, it’s not a big issue — the built-in GPS will automatically update the date and time once the camera powers on and gets a GPS signal.

Our latest firmware has already resolved the duplicate frame issue. However, since our R&D team is still fixing a few minor bugs, it hasn’t been officially released yet. We’ll keep you updated once it’s ready!

After updating the firmware in my E1 Pro, I can confirm that the frame duplication issue is a thing of the past. I've been going back through the past few weeks of footage and everything looks great - nice and smooth!

I just posted a set of comparison images between the E1 Pro and the newer S1 Pro Max cameras in my other review thread. This comparison predates the freshly released firmware for both cameras.

You can find it here:

I just posted to measurements of the behavior of the VP03 (II) and VP05 (II) hardwire kits to my thread on the N5S camera. The power efficiencies are pretty good and the user-selectable voltage shut-down levels are EXTREMELY precise.

Starting with the Oct 21, 2025 firmware update, the E1 Pro camera maintains consistent timestamps when copying video files from the SD card to your computer hard drive! It's hard to overstate my appreciation for this small, but incredibly useful update.

Many thanks to @Jeff_Vantrue and the Vantrue programming team for adding this new feature to each of the Vantrue cameras as firmware updates continue to roll out!
