Thinkware 750 Development

dee_82 - I did get a special recovery file for my F550 once when it appeared to be bricked. I tried everything to get it going. Finally a fresh format and the recovery file they sent me got it back up and running.

the 750 / 770 unfortunately is a different beast than the 550, the only way is via a special USB cable and using a special bit of software on a computer

Hi, I have version 1.00.22. I have formatted the original Thinkware sd card and renamed the F770 to F750. Placed in the cam, but it goes straight to GPS connected recording will now start. Do I need the earlier version of the software to upgrade the cam?
If I do need the earlier UK software, can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks for any help

Well, I have tried t o downgrade the software to 1.00.15, but no luck. I have disconnected from power for 10 mins, reset using a pin in the reset hole, but it will neither update to F770, or go back to 1.00.15. Anyone any ideas please?

this is interesting problem, will it let you re apply the .22 update?

I was having the same issue as Sean. I haven't got around to trying to downgrade yet however.

No, I can't downgrade, and when I try to reapply the update nothing happens. On checking the sd card, the .bin file has gone without any update message.

Has anybody had recent success loading the F770 firmware onto the F750, or the X550 firmware onto the X500 ?

Just been to the Thinkware download page, and both the F770 and F750 have "new" software versions. The F770 version is now 1.00.02 dated 30.06.2016, whilst the F750 version is 1.00.15 dated 01.10.2015. It appears that they must have had some problems with both. Is it safe to put the F770 on the F750? I await your reply Dee_82.
PS I am talking only about the UK versions as that is where I am.

Well I just tried to put version 1.00.15 on my F750. No go. Will try again with different cards tomorrow.

hi there, the 15 should work fine and is the version I have been using to upgrade devices from, the .22 version might be causing some issues but ive not heard anything about problems with the .03 F770 firmware.

you really must use a known working card, ideally the thinkware one

it would be useful to know if anyone has upgrade to the F770 from a F750 device with the base firmware version of .22 there has been a couple of folk on here that has had issues, it could potentially be thinkware stopping the device from upgrading to F770 and buggered something up.

for now, I would suggest people use the .15 F750 and upgrade to the .03 F770. I think I might upload the files I have so people can be sure they are getting the correct files.

There's a new F770 fw. anyone knows what the update's for? it doesn't mention on their site...

the firmware versions on the thinkware website are the same ones as before, so I'm not sure why some folk are saying they have been pulled.

in any case, the .03 firmware has some updates that fixes mobile speed camera zones, ie, you don't get nagged quite so much!

Still nags like no tomorrow for me.

Now if you are doing less than 95% of the speed limit it won't warn you about mobile camera zones. I did fight to get that put to 100% but they wouldn't as in Australia there is always ZERO tolerance on speeding.

I can only see the F750 V.22 that's been pulled.....(It may have been there when you posted that message though!)

EDIT - The V.03 has gone for the F770 too....strange i'm not aware of any issues with that one!

I see you are also from Canada... I'm in Toronto, where would there be a Canadian service center located in Canada ? If we wanted to send it back under the one year warranty for repair or a replacement. I have tried the North American support tel number many times and each time they said leave a voice mail message which I did many many times and no one ever responds back. I guess I have been spoiled by the crew at Street Guardian's quick support. But Thinkware is not so great in my opinion for support when we really need them. My friend bought it at Best Buy and even they have no clue.😡

Yeah, I see the same now, that is a little strange, I didn't use the .22 on the F750 so cant comment on it but the .3 on my converted 750 works a charm, no problems that I have noted, in fact IIRC I thought thinkware told 770 users NOT to change to the .02 as it contained some issues for some users.

Interesting to know the 95% thing on mobile speed camera zones, perhaps that is something they can allow users to set? TBH though, id rather keep that 5% margin, just in case they cheeky little buggers catch you out, 36 in 30 is enough to get you some free points here in the UK and 6mph ist a lot to play with

Ok, so I did some more playing. Here is a recap.

I've tried to upgrade 750-770 with the dashcam card which works in the camera and formatted in the camera. The card contained both only the bin file and with the settings file. Both times the camera boots to continuous recording normally and the bin file is deleted from the card.

I downloaded the .12 firmware and followed the same process above. In both cases it booted normally to continuous recording and again the bin file was deleted.

Is there a different process to downgrading the firmware? Any thoughts on why I'm running into an issue that others seem to be getting done with little issue?
