VANTRUE Nexus 2X (N2X) - 30 Day Review

I received an email that there was a reply to my msg#14, but I do not see it in the thread. Was it deleted? Anyway, I will answer the questions that came through in the email notification.

"I'm confused.....

When your car is turned on, the camera is SUPPOSE TO RECORD at all times.

Answer these questions precisely.

1. When you turn on your car, does the camera boot up and turn on? YES

2. When you turn off the car, does the camera turn off? NO

3. If the camera DOES NOT turn off when you shut down the car, DID YOU GO TO MENU SETTINGS and DISABLE:

A. Collision Detect Disabled
B. Motion Detection Disabled
C. Low Bitrate Disabled
D Low Framerate Disabled

Grey = Disabled and Green = Enabled."

Everything associated with Parking Mode disabled, the camera simply stays on and recording as if the car were still running. The ONLY way that it stops normal recording mode, is if I enable any of the above Parking Mode functions... then it turns the screen off and records motion or whatever, because I can view it an hour or two later, and see what happened in the interim. So, there is NO automatic "OFF" functionality. I have to either press and hold the power button on the far left, unplug the USB C connection, or pull the device away from it's magnetic mount. Again, if that's not how it's supposed to work, then my unit is clearly defective!

If I disable ALL Parking Mode functionality, and turn the ignition OFF, my unit will stay on recording.

I am wondering if there is a bug in the firmware? @Jeff_Vantrue Might have an answer.

It seems obvious that if you disable all the parking modes then it 'should' shut down.

I have this unit and will put it on test. I can't right now however.
I'll come back with my findings.

@Gunslinger4u
Testing the unit and based on my quick test it worked the way you want eg turn off parking.
This happens when aux is off ie no voltage.

Things to check
Aux wire really drops power eg 0volts
N2X firmware version
And if using the app
Update to the latest version.

I understand what you are saying. I have the black wire connected to a good ground. I have the yellow wire connected to a "switched" ACC fuse location, and I have the red connected to an always hot fuse location. My experience is different than what you are saying. I can only speak for my situation, but if I turn Parking Mode off, and bit and frame off.... the unit simply stays powered on in "normal" driving / recording everything mode. It does not turn off, unless I either unplug the USB C connector from the dashcam mount, or press and hold the power button on the far left to turn it off. If that is not how it's supposed to work, then my unit is defective.

Did you turn off Collision Detect, Motion Detection, Low Bitrate Mode, and Low fram eRate Mode?

A firmware update MAY HELP.....but...

I suspect he either hasn't disabled all parking mode like shown in image above... or he has the camera hardwired to a fuse that is linked to other systems with Canbus and not playing nicely.

Interesting that there is a place to login from the app, but it won't accept the login information I use and registered on their web site with from my Windows 11 laptop. So, I suspect it's not pulling the latest firmware to send to the device.

I seem to be having some issues logging into my account from the app. I can log in just fine from my laptop. Weird. Also, see the attached version info. Maybe it's because I'm not logged in from the Vantrue app?

Not the best advice. Best to turn it off in the menu. Then car comes on with accessory and turns off. If he wants to use parking mode, he can enable and disable in menu.

Totally forgot that all it took was to move the sliders to the "off" position for all four of the parking mode options. It's been several months since I stopped reviewing Vantrue products. 🙂

I understand completely. My experience is different, as I replied above. If I disable ALL Parking Mode functionality, and turn the ignition OFF, my unit will stay on recording. It will not switch to Parking Mode, because I have parking mode turned off. It simply stays on and recording as if the car was still driving down the road. If I have any of the Parking Mode features active, it will switch to that Parking Mode feature when the car is turned off. So I know that it is getting the ACC signal..... it's just that my unit is either Parking Mode functionality, or ON. There is no "OFF" mode unless I do it manually somehow. (or, it reaches the preset voltage cutoff that I selected, which I believe is 11.9 or 12).

Update firmware / software. Both are OUT OF DATE. Newest is 1.0.58

Once updated, if the issue persists, then you have the camera hardwired to fuses that are not in fact "Battery (Always On) and Access (off with Car"... or You selected a Fuse that has other systems tied to it with Canbus and it's causing conflicts.

I ran into the conflicts a few times. I Had to change fuses because systems aren't always listed in manual for what fuses are tied together.

Have it send a verification code to your email.. then enter the code...
Did that, entered the code it sent, same error. I even deleted the app from my iPhone and downloaded it again. Same thing trying to log in. I can log in to Vantrue.net just fine from my laptop, and I see my device registered just yesterday. I did download the latest firmware, copied it to a Micro SD card, and updated my N2X. So at least it's updated. And, I went back and checked all of the Parking Mode options and made sure they were off. It does indeed power off now when I turn off the car. So.... I think it's working as it should. The only thing I have yet to test now that I did the firmware update, is to see if it still creates a bunch of still pics along with the Parking Mode videos...... and I need to figure out how to login to my account from the Vantrue iPhone app. Apparently, it's the Chinese New year from Jan 28-Feb 4th, so they aren't responding to inquiries until next week.

Thank you all for your assistance, I really do appreciate it!

Great to hear it's working.
The only thing I have yet to test now that I did the firmware update, is to see if it still creates a bunch of still pics along with the Parking Mode videos.

When in motion detection settings everyone it creates a detection video it will also create a still image at approx 15sec in from the video.

This is a great idea as it reduces the wasted hours potentially of having to look through video footage.

Approximately
640K for front camera
240K for cabin camera.

As they are a reference photo from the video i guess they could be smaller perhaps with the date and time stamp enlarged so it's legible.

There doesn't seem to be an option to disable this.

I'm getting an error logging in, too. So that part seems to be on Vantrue's end.

I don't think you need a login / password to utilize the connection via the Camera's Direct Wifi.

Can you supply a link?
Note that i am talking about ios not android version of the app.

Also the version of the firmware you say has been updated could you paste the link.

Again note I'm talking about officially released version only.

Thanks.

Vantrue Servers appear offline unless my sim is out of Data. I can't log in. I had to go out to my car...

I assume since @Gunslinger4u also cannot, the issue is on Vantrue's end.

My Camera is the N2X.

Here is newest Firmware: https://www.vantrue.com/pages/n2x-manual-firmware

Newest Software is 1.0.58 for Android

Argh the plot thickens lol

Yep didn't know what the android version was. I have an android phone but its bricked! and the other fell out of the car window at 100kph!!! and I had just bought it. That was painful.

Thanks for the link to the firmware.
It seems there is a newer version of the software for the N2X even though the app doesn't prompt to update it.
The version is

Vserion: N2X_VT-EDJ101..... lol

Hey @Jeff_Vantrue spotted a spelling mistake.

I'm about to update my N2X to the newer firmware. 🤞
@Gunslinger4u

I just double checked the Apple IOS store, and the lastest version is 1.0.38 for iOS, not .58

I just want to jump on again, and thank everyone for taking the time to offer me assistance in this forum! I sincerely appreciate it! What a fantastic medium this is, where one can reach out in frustration, and have so many people willing to diffuse and contribute to solutions! Again, very much appreciated!

Well isn't that interesting LOL. Mine is out of date then, too.
