Hi all,

Hello all, This maybe a hard question to answer. Worth a try.

I plan on getting a229 pro with a 256GB card (I would get a 512GB but hear it has reliability issues?) plus aux battery Cell Link Neo/Power Cell (7,500mAh). How much time would I be able to record on low bit rate when parked, provided I started with a full aux battery?

TIA,
Jay

Welcome to the club.
I’ve been testing the Viofo Brand 512GB SD Card since 9/11/23 with 3 different cameras;
A229 Pro (pre-production) 9/11/23
A229 Plus (retail / production) 9/26/23
A229 Pro (retail / production) 12/28/23
I have experienced zero malfunctions.
Just between me, and you “ONLY” use Viofo Brand SD Cards in Viofo dash cams.
Yes, you should be able to use any SD Card from any brand that meets speed requirements, but that is simply not reality.
They are expensive, but if you value your sanity they are worth it.
Right now they are 20% off on Amazon US.

I can answer your question about parking mode operating time & SD Card capacity recording time but, I need to know what configuration you will be running.

I am in Australia so I cant locate anyone selling viofo 512sd card and Amazon US states it unavailable.

I will be running a '2-CH Front/Rear
2-CH REAR is approximately 5 Watts of power consumption.
96Wh ÷ 5 Watts = 19.2 Hours

With Viofo 512GB SD Card available recording time in 2-CH REAR;
Normal Recording Mode: 13 Hours
Low Bitrate Parking Mode: 135 Hours

Thank you very much. Your power draw calcs makes sense. If we put aside, the capacity of the power pack, how much low bit rate recording can I get from a 256gb sd card. If you can share your methodology of your calcs that would be very much appreciated.

Low Bitrate Parking Mode records at 4.1 Mbps per channel.
I used this calculator; https://dashcamtalk.com/recording-time-calculator/
Thank you so much. You have been a great source of information and Iam very much indebted to you.

Based on the info provided it seems 256GB is more than adequate and the weak link is the aux battery. I am now looking at iRoad power pack pro which has more capacity than Celllink. Do you know if you can stack multiple Power pack pro batterys?

IROAD Power Pack Pro 12 has 153Wh capacity.
153Wh ÷ 5 Watts = 30.6 Hours
I think Ben said the expansion port was replaced by a USB-A output.
Let me call him to confirm @safedrivesolutions

That is correct. expansion was replaced with a USB port. I actually edited the video and took out the part where I said it was expandable.
