VIOFO A229 Pro FIRMWARE

Thanks, I upgraded successfully and reset the dashcam twice - first time with a needle, and second time from dasham settings menu itself.
Had to go thru full setup - which means settings did get erased.

... and yes, I still need work on upgrading HK4 -> HK6 (the kit is sitting on my table for weeks now LOL)

I highly recommend manual settings default after any firmware change. FYI, the hard reset button on the side of the camera will just power cycle the camera, it does not default the cameras settings.
I always wondered about that. No different than a power cycle?

I believe you need to hold for few seconds (to be safe, press and hold for like 10 seconds). Same applies to wifi routers, for example.
Either way, i did soft reset using the dashcam, and formatted the memory card. Will see how it works

OK I am a little confused (not an unusual state) 😳

I updated my Rear Camera FW to what I believed to be the latest V1.3.1_250421 per Viofo screenshot below but when I confirm on the camera, the screen shows 1.3.1_241204.
How can V1.3.1 have two different dates? I am not updating to 250421.
My archived rear camera FW from 241204 is showing the same 4.7 MB size as 250421.

The update didn't work if you are showing the older dates. Viofo has done this for the last couple of years where there are multiple versions of the same update with the same firmware number. But they are dated newer, so the newer is the more recent update.

@Augustus you were correct the first update attempt did not work. Funny, the completion bar finished the first time but I never got the message "Updating Rear Camera". I wonder where all those poor electrons went?
It worked the second time. I dont like that they use the same FW number for different dates.

🤦‍♂️
Maybe VIOFO should invest in their FW org. They are not a small start-up, they should have a proper release management. Re-releasing a different FW under the same version number is a bad practice.
Also, maybe they should consider always releasing matching FW version for the rear camera. That will prevent confusion

I've had the same happen with me before, agreed that they could do a better job at making it work the first time. And also the firmware naming scheme is confusing

I have always loaded both front and rear FW at the same time on a freshly formatted SD card. I never had a problem, first the Front then the Rear updates occurred.
This time after the front FW loaded, the camera reformatted the card automatically, and wiped out the rear camera FW so it never got loaded and I had to remove and reload the SD card with rear camera FW.
This is the first glitch I ever experienced loading FW.

That's nice, won't be the last time either. Until Viofo jump onto the OTA firmware update process that other brands have been doing for a while.

Hello, can you see how many characters the rear camera speed has, because with this firmware combination I have 4 speed characters, not 3. Thanks in advance!

I updated the firmware, and noticed the change log mentions this:
1. Added: Long-press menu button for 2 seconds to enter the menu.
So...how do I turn off the camera now, to remove the memory card?

Are you asking if the Firmware you are using is the most recent? If so yes

First wake up the display by tapping the menu button, then hold it down until it powers off.

The problem was in the firmware for the front camera! Last week they fixed it and re-uploaded it to the official website!
The latest Firmware I see on their website for the A229 Pro front camera is September 18 2025
  • 250918

That's right, they removed it for 1 or 2 days, returned the previous one, and the one you see on the official website is already the fixed firmware. Next, when you install it on the rear camera, they will have 3 speed symbols instead of 4.

When you say "speed symbols" do you mean "Resolution Settings" for the rear camera? A screen shot of the speed symbols would help.
