VIOFO A329 2CH - Testing / Review - RCG

Here are some raw rainy day footage samples from the VIOFO A329 2-Channel with beta firmware v1.0_241118. Front camera resolution setting 4K 60fps with CPL installed and the rear camera resolution setting 2K 30fps.


Some comparison footage samples from a MIOFIVE S1 Ultra 2-channel dash camera. Front camera resolution setting 4K 30fps with no CPL installed and the rear camera resolution setting 4K 24fps.


24 fps almost eliminates the flickering of the vehicle's LED lights, day or night.

Instead of (front) 60 fps and (rear) 30 fps, you can try software that supports 24 fps or 25 fps on the rear camera and 50 fps on the front camera.

I am curious why you would want a lower frame rate? If the flickering is removed when 24fps is used doesn't that imply that 24fps is to slow to catch details?

If you increased the frame rate to much higher you would be able to calculate what frequency the light is flicking at and also be more informed to what is really going on.
I believe there are some sensors that are able to reduce flickering, I don't think they reduce the frame rate but do it by some other method.

I don't mind the flickering taillights but I do mind stuttering video due to slow frame rates in some cases.

Did you disable the GPS Coordinates for the A329, or is it just not picking up signal?
Or is it a glitch?

Alternative options may be offered. Anyone who wants can use it. Trying the front camera at 50fps instead of 60fps won't hurt anything. This is a suggestion I made to smooth the image.
It is also a little more economical for data recording and more time can be recorded. gets less hot etc. etc.

Starvis 2 sensors have this feature, unfortunately, the way it works is essentially to increase the exposure time, which increases the amount of motion blur. If using 24fps reduces the flicker then it will also do so by increasing the motion blur. If you want sharp licence plates then it is better to accept that some LED lamps will flicker, generally only faulty ones, older ones, and low quality ones, since newer ones are designed to avoid causing problems for autonomous breaking systems and self driving cars.

Trying the front camera at 50fps instead of 60fps won't hurt anything. This is a suggestion I made to smooth the image.

Incandescent and fluorescent lamps cause flicker like that, but they are no longer available in most places, so are not a problem.

The visual you are watching is purely for the purpose of providing an example.
In the sample driving footage above, the lights in the vehicle are flickering. The solution I mentioned may fix this.
We may have seen the difference by trying 50 fps instead of 60 fps on the front camera.
For example, in other brand videos, the light does not flicker in the rear camera image.

Eliminating flickering LED lights on every vehicle manufacturer in every region of the world is an unreasonable request.
Yes, technically it could be done, but there are too many variables, and solutions too expensive / man hours of writing code.

It is not appropriate to use the word unreasonable for a suggestion or request made by someone else.

This is a simple suggestion I made.

Previously a139 pro and a229 duo 24fps were used.

In the two shared videos, one of the rear camera images is 30fps and the other is 24fps and the result is obvious.

Frankly, I'm getting unfortunate feedback.
Don't worry. The answer may or may not come from Viofo. However, it is equally unnecessary to give incomplete feedback when it comes to evaluating the situation.
If this is added as a resolution option, anyone can use it as they wish.

The fps does not affect the flicker much, apart from the frequency. It is the exposure time that will remove or allow the flicker, and Viofo cameras do tend to show more flicker than other brands because they use shorter exposure times to get less motion blur. You can not remove the flicker without having more motion blur, and for most people, it is more important to have sharp images than it is to have zero flicker. As car lamps and traffic light lamps improve, the flicker is becoming less anyway.

For some people the flicker is annoying, but the job of the dashcam is to record evidence, so we want sharp images, not zero flicker images.

a139 pro uses starvis 2 and 24fps.

I think that there is no need for vehicle cameras to obtain perfect images or cinema quality images, it is sufficient to use them for their main purpose of obtaining evidence in incidents, with license plate readability being a secondary consideration.

Nowadays, there are security cameras everywhere that can read license plates. In an important incident we experience, if the vehicle type and travel route are determined, the relevant vehicle and its license plate can be found.

I don't care about the light flickering here either. However, it can be tried while there is a possibility and offering it as an option can also be considered as an alternative feature.

Luckily where I live, and drive, there are back roads that don't contain security cameras. I'd prefer for the dash cam to record the license plate with the events that occurred before the incident. Flickering of light are less relevant to me.

Edit: If it could make coffee, especially in the morning, that would be a bonus

You can do without coffee, but you can't do without legible license plates.
I also drive a lot on roads where video surveillance cameras will probably never appear, so legibility of oncoming cars' license plates both day and night is my top priority.

I don't understand the insistence on not trying to see that what you need to distinguish here is that there are both options and everyone can choose and use the option they want.

I disable the GPS coordinates from displaying in the status line text. It's easier than trying to blur their values in videos uploaded to YouTube. It also allows me to upload raw videos from the dash camera to YouTube without disclosing my location.

I still allow the speed to be displayed which shows whether or not a GPS signal lock has been obtained by the GPS module.

The firmware revision begins. After revision, the readability of license plates of oncoming cars at night is no longer the same.
A very good example of this is the A119 Mini 2. The quality of night video on firmware V1.0_230516 was much better than in firmware V2.1_241010.
You can compare for yourself.

The real issue is left behind. I think 50 fps can be tried instead of 60 fps for the a329. Just as 24 fps was used on the a139 pro and a229 duo models, I think trying this on the a329 will match the frequencies of the flickering lights and eliminate flickering. pure assumption.

By the way, I sent sample images and videos for the a119 mini 2 to support in the past weeks. I am aware of the situation. I agree with you.

Since my comments and suggestions contain meaningless jokes that I cannot laugh at, my reaction and good wishes are normal.

Technically, I think the vibration in the images of the two sample cameras is low due to the 24 fps of the rear camera. Based on this, there is no point in making a judgment without trying 25 fps and 50 fps. I think the a329 can handle this. maybe not.

To summarize, I have no criticism for you. Opinion may not be respected. But we are not robots. I think we should respect each other

Using 50fps on A329 might match the frequency of a 50Hz lamp, but where are you going to find a 50Hz lamp? Car lights do not operate at 50Hz, except some very old ones, traffic lights do not operate at 50Hz, except ones that have not been upgraded to LED, but I don't think there are any of those remaining. Fuel station forecourts used to have fluorescent lamps that operated at 50Hz, but they are all gone, fluorescent tubes are no longer manufactured. So the only lamps you are likely to find that use 50Hz are some old neon signs.

50Hz will likely be the wrong frequency for the flickering car lamps you are seeing in the videos.

If you want to remove the flicker, you could ask Viofo to increase the amount of anti-flicker in the firmware, but then everyone else will complain that the license plates are now blurred!

I drive on circuits that are reasonably far away from where I live or work, doesn't bother me that coordinates are listed

24 FPS does not necessarily mean 'Fake 4K'. Cinematic mode and,or video motion can determine the FPS in 4K.

30 FPS or 60 FPS provides less strobing and choppiness in 4K, but you can still do 4K in 24 FPS for average motion.
