Viofo A329S Review

I wonder if the English king have gone thru the SAS course like the Danish king have passed our frogman course, a course very very few pass, many apply but less than a handful have the right stuff.
I respect our new king on that alone, otherwise not much of a monarchist in me.
He trained as a military jet pilot, then a navy helicopter pilot, and served as a helicopter pilot on destroyers and frigates, then as commander of a minehunter. Didn't serve in any conflicts, unlike his son and grandson, but only because we had a bit of peace for a while!

After leaving the navy, he flew the queens planes for a while, until he crashed one!

Looking forward to an actual A329S review in this thread - and not all this side chat that's all too common.

Some good examples and comparisons of the pre-production model @SafeDriveSolutions which is a good teaser, so hopefully more to come when the retail units ship and reach people in the next week or so.

I asked for express shipping on one as I will be in Las Vegas early June. Would love to have sample footage on a final production unit from the Las Vegas Strip.

The first 4 frames of the Vueroid are identical, it's not properly awake yet!
The first 2 frames of the Thinkware are very overexposed, it hasn't opened its eyes properly yet!
Both the Thinkware and Vueroid are 15fps.
The Viofo is correctly exposed from frame 1 and has 30fps.
Current Draw
Front + rear
Viofo 39ma
Thinkware 7ma
Vueroid 2ma

And so that the mA actually mean something, the Viofo runs on 5V.
Not sure about the others? are you measuring some of those mA at 12V?

And the King might point out that it is "mA", not "ma" 🤣

Every ma is measured at 12.5 volts on a bench. We don't measure at 5 VOlts.

Then you need to measure the Viofo with the HK6, because that will give a different result to other hardwire kits!

Yes but noone has one yet. But it could be higher ma

For you, when installing it on an electric car which is known to have a 12V battery with a lower capacity than a thermal one, is it advisable to install it with an auxiliary power battery?

Yes it is advisable. But also depends how you plan to use parking mode. The Viofo dash cameras you can have set for as low as 30 minutes while parked. So everything depends on how you plan to use it.

I have never had a dashcam, it would be the first and I have no experience with it. In fact I do not understand the various parking modes and how to use them. Hypothetically I would say that a few times a week it would be useful to check the car for a maximum of a couple of hours. At night the car is parked outside, but the area is quiet for the moment. When I am on vacation it would be better to check it at night for 2-3 days when it is busy. To go to work I drive for 15 minutes in the morning and the same in the evening to go home. Your advice is always precious

I am just having fun. Stopped following politics 2.5 months ago and am happier for it. 😎
I was being sarcastic lol, I know you're taking jabs at him and he can't see that. I unfollowed politics years ago, most boring topic around

you do not drive a whole lot. Are you mainly concerned about driving? Or also concerned about while parked? There are various parking modes offered.

For instance

Keep in mind that your car battery can only support so much recording which is why battery packs are recommended.

A list of pros and cons of each mode and which situations they are best and worst suitable for would be nice.

Eg.
1fps Time Lapse with night vision
Pros
Works in dimly lit night parking
Sharp picture in daylight
Reduces file size by 97%
Continuous recording catches incidents that wouldn't trigger G sensor such as vandalism - keying or graffiti, paint scrapes
Lower power consumption, less wear on battery, allows longer parking mode before voltage cutoff.

Cons
Each locked file covers at least 30 minutes, making it harder to find when the incident occurred.
No sound, which might be important for hearing scrapes or voices.
Might miss chances to see faces or number plates that are only visible between the 1-second frames

Best if surveillance needed while car is parked in poorly lit locations.

Low Bit Rate
Pros
Sound
Natural looking video
Full frame rate
Continuous recording
4 Mbps per channel rate reduces file by at least 60 percent vs Low or even 93 percent vs Max bitrate
Shorter files easier to transfer

Cons
Moving objects are blurred but ok for parking situation
Video is totally black if parked in a dark location

Best when parked in daylight, well lit street or car park, if looking for vandalism or scrapes as opposed to collisions.

Auto Event Detection
Pros
Avoids recording when nothing is moving
Full frame rate, sharp capture of fast moving objects.
Files short 45 seconds

Cons
Might miss some events
Video is completely black in poorly lit areas

Best when always parked in lit streets or garages and not needing to watch continuously, mainly looking out for collisions

Don’t make the same mistake I did, and forget to double check lens adjustment.
For night time footage I should have raised it a bit to get the tall buildings.
